Proof that article marketing is NOT dead

So I was surfing around today and found a #1 listing from Ezinearticles on Google. I took a look then scrolled down to the bottom...

It had over 700,000 views...

So now I was curious, and looked at the writer's account:

Platinum Author who joined April 12, 2007
  • 1,746 Live Articles
So if he had a 20% CTR, that's well over 1 million views from articles.

Think about those CPC costs in the weight loss niche

Done correctly and if its written about something people want you can do really well, the problem is all the people who say that it is dead don't do it properly.

If I had to guess, I'd say that 90% of people doing it now, even on this board, are doing it wrong and not making much for their efforts.

So by that definition, yes, Article Marketing is long dead. Definitely.

But if you follow some of the sharper minds on the topic, especially those preaching for all the world to hear about "quality" and "syndication" it IS possible to make it work financially no question.

Wow! Article marketing is not dead, but you can't just write articles and expect them to alwyas stay at the top. You actually need to build back links to your articles so that they can maintain ranking. It's hard to figure out the perfect system.

EZA will love that. Nothing like building backlinks for the biggest directory in town.

You could on the other hand, build backlinks to the site that the EZ article points to, that way your site may become the authority and may not disappear as fast as the article itself.

      Food for thought?

It all comes down to how good your contents are and how competitive the niche is! Its still all hardwork though. Look at the top author for example, 1.7k articles submitted in 3 years. That shows a lot of commitment and hard work

      hey,

I have over 1000+ articles on EA and other directories.

When I had like 20, i would get maybe one optin a day to my squeezes.

But now, I can get up to 60 a day.....LOL.

So imagine if i post another 2000+ high quality articles. Which I plan on doing by the way...

so article marketing dead.... nup ....no way hosea.

Agreed. It's just that the majority of people don't want to put in the effort to write articles consistently, and they also think they should get instant results from doing this, which almost never happens. This is a good thing, because that just means there's more traffic for the rest of us who do understand the power of article marketing!

Maybe I am jaded, but I often tend to think that everytime I see an article in EZA that has an astronomical view count, that the author paid for those views. Whats really funny is when the article is a week old and it has over 100K views.

    Back on topic,

article marketing will never get old, as long as you do it properly.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I never believe in views anymore (unless it's an article dated back in 2005). We all know it's super easy to inflate that stuff. I think I saw one the other day that was a couple days old and already had 60k. Yeah......and I'm sure those views were real.

It's all about the CTR and the conversions! Other than that, views are just views and nothing more.

Well if anything, these examples show that article directories, in particular EZA, are not dead more so than "article marketing" itself.

It's no surprise, though, really. Not when you consider how many people promote their content on the directory, instead of promoting their content on their own site. Worse, others put their content on the directories exclusively.

I have done all of the above. But I've learned my ways (I swear.)

I hate to break it to you, but that actually kind of sucks. If you spent 30 minutes writing each article, that means you spent 500 hours producing those articles, and all you have to show for it is 60 optins a day? That's twelve 40 hour work weeks.....for 60 optins a day.

        Ugggh.

And it gets even worse if you actually spent an hour or more and produced decent articles.

Yeah working hard for 12 weeks to produce a fulltime income that will provide for you for the rest of your life is so totally not worth it. Having 60 optins a day on autopilot which equals nearly 22,000 a year is so not worth it...

I have to agree that article marketing is not dead, and you'd be hardpressed to convince me that it ever will be dead. Information search is the second largest online activity, ranking only behind email... and articles are information.

However, with the sweeping changes in the noted article directories, and within the big "G" and other search engines, more people find it difficult to get their less than quality junk accepted. Therefore, they say article marketing is dead.

Personally, I do not use the article directories any longer because I found something better for my article marketing efforts... online magazines. Mind you, I did not say ezines, but actual online magazines. It is akin to getting your articles accepted and published in print magazines, but without a lot of the headaches.

I have written articles in the top ranked online magazine that have made it to page one in google in a matter of hours... unlike eza and others where you would still be waiting to get accepted.

I, like many other Warriors have found that writing articles for online magazines can ge you massive backlinks instantly, manke money almost as soon as your article is published, grab subscribers, and generate residual income.

Article marketing dead? NO! The way you market with articles now? YES!

It's actually nowhere nearly as easy to get your articles published as the article directories such as with EZA or niche ezines, but the longevity, authority and traffic are far superior.

I wasn't even going to ask about tightened editorial standards with these magazines. I'm more an admirer of great writing rather than one who partakes in it. Notes of caution from someone who makes part of her living from statisitcal anlysis:

    1. No one has any idea what the true views are on this EZA account.

For years, including SEVERAL top-selling WSOs, the concept of paying for third-party traffic to generate false views of EZA articles was practiced (and still is).

Don't assume the views are legit. Doesn't mean they aren't, don't get me wrong here. But if you're a lurker don't suddenly stop whatever IM method you're pursuing because you're falling for some possibly-inflated figures.

    2. BEWARE advice coming from people in these "pro-article marketing" threads that have ACTIVE WSOs for sale about articles, article-marketing, or anything else related to an obvious reason why they would pimp it as an IM method to focus on.

Again, doesn't mean they're full of **** by any means, but you must always be on guard.

    3. At the end of 2008, Ezineartciles had a total of just over 2M articles live and on the directory. It took them nearly a decade to achive that figures. As of today, they're close to 6M...just a few years later.

What this tells you is that people who are throwing hundreds of low-quality articles at the wall hoping some of it will stick through outsourcing have had to increase their efforts to make the same amount of money as previosuly.

You can infer from this that changes are happening to the CORE of the method.

Does this mean it's failing? Not necessarily. Does it mean you're going to have to be talented and have a competitive advantage to make article marketing work? Possibly.

But it does show conclusively that this method is being pursued by an ever-increasing amount of people who are trying to overcome a poor sales funnel by throwing an ever-increasing amount of low quality outsourced articles into the machine.

Just some thoughts to ponder, but it is VERY easy to be led astray as a newbie or lurker by threads like these...that only see the top layer of the surface and offer only cursory examination of what lies beneath.

The main benefit of article marketing now is backlinks. You should be posting the articles to your own site, and once it gets indexed, then post to the directories. You want your own site to be what's showing up in google, not an EZA.
