Wheres The Best Place For .Com.Au Domains?

Hi There,

I'm building a site for my sisters business in Australia, so need a .com.au domain, can anyone tell me the best place to get one?

I also have a feeling you can't buy them to sell (like .ie), so there a bit more tricky to pick up is this correct?

Thanks,

Sam

You need to have an "ABN" - Australian Business Number. You don't have to be Australian to have one but have an Australian-based business. I got my .com.au s through Asia Registry - $20 per year. Yes - you can sell them but have to pay the transfer. $40 I think. (having trouble logging on to their site)

    Sam,

When you're picking the .com.au domain name for her, try and find one that works well for her business but where you can pickup the .com version as well. You don't want to leak any traffic to the .com site.

Also some of these places can take a couple of days to verify your domain so don't think the process will be quite as instant as a regular .com domain can be. Someone has to manually verify your ABN or ACN. There are also some restrictions on what the actual domain name can be. It needs to relate very closely to the name or nature of your business - you can't just go registering domains willy nilly.

Obviously it depends on the company you use to register the domain as to what sort of domain they will let you get away with.
