need help sharpening skills creating a technical specification for a programmer

as the topic name suggests, I am looking for any help to sharpen my skills in creating a technical specification for a programmer when he has to do a site for someone.

In other words, when I am told by someone what they want in their website, and I need to now make sure I clearly give over that idea to the programmer.

Any documents or examples or anything to help me do a better job is much appreciated!

    I don't have anything for you, but would suggest you create a "project completion template" of some kind you can use as a reference.

    I would include things like the name of the project, the thing that needs to be created, what the functions are of the thing, which software/platform it should run with, other products which may already be on the market with similar features which can be referenced, etc.

    Have your person go over these specifics with you, and you should have a nice list of what needs to be covered with the programmer you hire.

    I am often handed such questionaires from people who might be making a template for me so there is no confusion on what I want and don't want.
