New Wordpress Update - Notice whats missing?

Hi there,

Has anyone else clicked the automatic update of Wordpress to version 3.1 today?

Did you then find that when going to add a post, the Excerpt, Trakback, Cusom Fields etc sections no longer appear??

Anyone any ideas what has happened?

For my affiliate sites with the themes I use I need the custom fields boxes!!

Look forward to your thoughts

Jon

The 3.1 update also destroyed the functionality of nearly all my plugins.

...I have contacted all the developers but have yet to hear anything back.

Thanks for the heads up. I usually wait a while to update to let things settle a little bit...but this time I was curious about the new version and was thinking about updating.

I think I will wait awhile or just update on a junk domain and test it out...

I have just found the answer! In fact I lie - my lovely wife (and business partner) found the answer!!

If you look at the top right of the screen when you are in your dashboard and click the drop down menu "Screen Options"

This enables you to reload the missing sections.

Good of them to make everyone aware!!!

      Hope this helps

That's good to know Jon. I was going to wait a while before I updated, but I'll go ahead and update now. Thanks.

To blog or not to blog? That is the question!

That option has always been there to clean up the clutter on your post editor page. I always get rid of (hide) all those extra parts. Now they are already hidden by default.

Thank you so very much for this info. Before checking the forum I had spent several hours searching what the problem was and staring at my computer not knowing what to do. This piece of information has relieve me of my frustrations.
        Thanks

I'm running into other issues with the new WP 3.1.
The tags no longer stay with the page.
I'm not able to get ride of the "comment" box when someone views the page on the web (and I checked all the boxes I could in the dashboard).

I hope it's just me and these are not actually issues, just something I'm not doing correctly, but if someone knows how to fix these issues, please speak up! Thanks!

Still can't get rid of the comment box, but not an issue. It seems like the "tags" issue had something to do with HEADSPACE plugin. I deleted it completely. I'm now trying the YOAST SEO plugin. So far, it seems alright!

      @JuliannaW

Regarding your plugins, when there is a major update on WP, I always wait over a month or so because all the plugin authors need to update their versions to be compatible with the new WP. Takes time to work out the bugs. I never update on any WP version too quickly because of that.

      Hope that helps!

If you want to completely remove the comment box, you have to either edit post.php or page.php, or both.
