Should I sell my site on flippa???

When I started my IM journey a few years ago, my ambition was to have a health related website/blog with the hope that I would make money from it. Health is my expertise and I felt that I had a lot to offer in this direction.

However. I know realize that my site mainly offers information based on my expertise rather than offering a solution to a problem. The content is good but the targeting is wrong. so far I have made no money from it.

The site is now a couple of years old and I was wondering if it was worth trying to sell it on flippa or should I just let it go. The domain is due for its renewal next week so I need to decide asap

The site is in my signature file below - Your Healthy Options

Thanks

Janet, I would keep up with it. You've already done a lot of work and just "letting go" any piece of virtual real estate would be a total waste. If you've already built up some consistent traffic your site is on its way to being worth something to either you or someone else.

Selling it on Flippa now you wouldn't nearly get as much for it if you were to monetize it, even just something, for a few months.

I would renew the domain, focus on 1 or 2 targeted category defining keywords that have a decent amount of traffic and lower competition, and then target 15 to 20 long tail keyword phrases that have at least 200 searches per month. Just make sure that you personally would use those keywords to intuitively search for a specific solution.

I would also add a stronger call to action above the fold. I see that you do offer the main clickbank info products, but have something specific that stands out. I would offer something to build a list. Having a list is associated with your site is a huge asset, plus you can let your expertise show and give people an opportunity to buy from someone they trust.

If you haven't already added google analytics I would do it immediately. Install the plugin "google analyticator". It's free and easy to install. Without knowing exactly how people are finding you, you'll never be able to truly tell how best to monetize.

Janet, never underestimate the power of "expertise". You have come a long way with this site and now have the opportunity to help people by educating them on their options. Believe in yourself and don't give up.

      Ryan is right here IMO.

I would work on the site some more and monetize it.
"You have come a long way with this site". Your content is great and you have the design and some (old) traffic. All you gotta do is renew!

Try selling it on ebay. Flippa charges $19 just to list your site. I don't like Flippa.

Flippa is a good option but its more for people in internet marketing the ideal in flippa is a site that has generated sales, has lots of traffic, and has potential. which means somebody thinks they can make money from your site. from your post Your site obviously has potential. And with flippa you can earn a lot of money. but if you don´t want to change it and its just for information than ebay is a better option.

Is Ebay even good for selling websites? I think serious buyers use Flippa only

I have to agree with you. Flippa is way too expensive. Ebay is the way to go...

Don't forget all the extra add-ons to make your site stand out

Interestingly enough though, in the little I've experimented there, everyone seems to get all the add-ons and upgrades....so your site could actually stand out if you DON'T purchase them all...lol

I have the same opinion, trying to sell it on ebay.
Try to get followers for it by using the social media first.
You must have and a little luck.

Don't give up! Maybe try a few different ways of promoting your site? If your site offers good information then people will keep coming back.

Tbh, it probably wouldn't be worth putting it on Flippa. It's probably not worth much to anyone else currently.

I would change the header , it's way to busy and takes away focus of the content.
Other than that the content is pretty good

I would like to add on to the comment about the header. I do not really think you need to change the header it self but instead change the font color. For instance if you look at your tag line people basically have to guess at wha tit says for the last part of the word living blends in with the tag on the apple. So I would change that font color in your css file so that it is visable with out having to highlight it. This way they know exactly what it is you are saying there. Not that the tag line really matters to much. However for new comers it is really a turn off which is why they are not going down to see your adds on your site at the bottom.

You may also want to get pretty links or something so that you can cloak your links to your clickbank ads some. For they see that it is clearly a direct link to a product page which you will be getting compensation from. People do not like to be sold to in any way shape or form. So by eliminating the fact that they can clearly see they will be getting sold to by going to the offers on the page. They choose not to and move on to the next site with other information.

So will changing the font entail understanding html???

Re the affiliate links, are you saying that if the links are cloaked in some way that the reader will be less likely to think I am earning commission and therefore more likely to buy??

Is pretty links a plugin or do I need to cloak the links manually??

I seriously think that you should not give up on your site easily. Try to get followers for it by using the social media first. Have you ever tried advertising your site for extra traffic? Try to do this for a couple of months first before you think of giving it up again. Maybe all you need is a bit more of motivation.

When you say advertise for extra traffic, what do you mean?? Are you talking about adwords??

I get about 1,000 visitors on average per month - not sure if that is good or bad, but I do know that they are not buying!!!!!

I have read that I need to highlight a problem and provide a solution. If I change the emphasis of the site to do this - maybe chose a specific condition such as arthritis and then offer a solution - do you think I should just leave all the current articles in place in the background to maintain the content??

Thanks to everyone who has taken the trouble to respond. There is some very useful information here. I am very heartened by the comments from Ryan and those of you who think I should stick with this site and who think that it does have good content and a chance of making some money.

I will certainly take on board all the comments and try to make some changes that will improve the site and also improve the traffic and the call to action

I was also interested to learn that sites can be sold on ebay. I was unaware of this.

Thanks again - I just love this forum!!!!

First you need to figure out what you want most of your money to come from from the site. For I see you have adsense on the site. However the problem with most of your adsense ads is that they are all below the fold. There for many are just skimming over your article really fast and not seeing any of the ads minus the single adsense ad at the top in the article. You should try changing that single ad at the op to something a little bit bigger that shows a few more ads in the actual box.

I would probably do a 250x300 my self but that is just me you would have to test things out to see which ones work the best for you and your site. I also noticed some banners at the bottom right sidebar of your site. Again many people are not seeing these ads which means that you are losing sales do to the fact they have to go to the bottom of you site to find them. Try to get them above the fold as much as possible.

Personally I would keep it if you are getting some decent traffic. At least for the time being. For if the site is not producing any profits at all it is going to sell really cheap on flippa. People like to see sites that are already established and making profits.

I also see that you are not trying to get any emails at all. Again this is doing nothing but hurting you and your profits in the long run. Why not in the top welcome section you offer some sort of give away so that they can subscrib to your list. In turn you will be able to sell to them years from now even if you where to sell the site today.

Hope this helps I wish you the best of luck with what ever choice you go with. Personally though I think I would just focus on monetizing it a little better. That is just my 2 cents though.

Thanks Pete - that is really helpful advice and again it is good for me to hear that the site is worth keeping. I guess I was just losing confidence in it and consequently losing interest. Now I have some really good ideas as to how to improve it and that has sparked some renewed interest and enthusiasm

Janet, I wouldn't sell it right now if I were you. If your website isn't making any money, and probably gets very little existing traffic, it's not going to be worth your while to list it on Flippa and make next to nothing, especially given the fact that you've put a fair amount of time and effort into developing it.

I'd focus on monetizing your site with targeted/relevant offers if you haven't already done so, and start driving as much traffic as possible to it, so that you can at least have some revenue to show your prospects at Flippa.

Without a decent amount of verified traffic and/or revenue, your site is going to go for very little, or may not even generate enough interest to sell. Work on your site and develop it further before thinking of selling it.

why give up on your site.
it looks pretty good and contents are also good.
why dont you just try to optimize your site more get more traffic etc.
after which you can ask some people to advertise on your site of if traffic is high, advertisers will just come voluntarily.
