J-Warriors, Meet Up in Japan?

Hey All,

I'll be going to Japan 26th September through 1st October. Got my flight booked already. While I'll be attending James Brown's wedding on 28th September, would also like to meet up with anyone else staying around the Fukushima area, Tokyo.

Game for meet up? And he heh... who knows, create a product together maybe?

    Hi Edmund,

I'm flying out to Singapore in a few days and I'll be staying until December and travelling around Asia and Australia during that time so I'll see if I can make my timings fit.

I've got a family Houji (a funeral anniversary thingy with lots of chanting and falling asleep), so I can't make it up for the wedding (major disappointment). But I will come up after to help dispose of the leftover alcohol -- oh yeah, and meet up with you lot.

Andy, make sure you add Osaka to your itinerary. Best place in Japan.

        Hey Kevin,

It's James Brown's wedding, hope he's okay with that. But I'll be around for six days in total so we should catch up for sure. Fill me in on anything I should be aware of in Japan. Things like:

        - are there ample English signs around?
        - how much of the people do speak at least simple English?
        - is it true that Ultraman and Godzilla exists?

        Things like that.

        Andy,

You're coming to Singapore? What's the agenda? I'm staying only 15 minutes away from Singapore. If you fancy meeting up and that I can take your autograph, I can come down.

You're crossing the Sing-Msia border again? Didn't they increase the number of German Shepherds after your last visit?? (Kidding! . Be good to have you here again!)

There are ample Engrish signs around for you to laugh at.

          - how much of the people do speak at least simple English?
Both James and his sidekick Stu speak simple English. Don't push them too far on vocabulary with more than 3 syllables and you'll make out OK.

          - is it true that Ultraman and Godzilla exists?
But they're in Tokyo. They're not foolish enough to live in the wilds of Fukushima, unlike some IMers who shall remain anonymous.

              I WANT TO COME!

              James, I haven't met you, but I wish I could join! I can't though.

As you may notice from my last name, it's a FUKUSHIMA exclusive name. Hikichi is a rare Japanese name except in Fukushima.

My mother and I are both born in Hobara, Fukushima while my father is from Yanagawa, Fukushima. In fact, they're visiting Fukushima right now for BON season.

I didn't know there are so many of you live in Fukushima (and I bet your area codes start with 0245 or something close)...

James, invite over to your 5th anniversary party pls.

                Hi Takuya,

Sure any time you are back in the neighbourhood call out & say hi

Its such a small world lol... I'm in Fukushima-shi and yes with an 0245 code.

Well, its just me and Stuart Stirling who are based here in Fukushima-ken.

There's a number of other J-Warriors spread out all over Japan. I think we've
just about got most areas covered now. A number of them are coming into
town to help celebrate our lil wedding party.

Stay in touch and hope to meet you some time when you are back out here
                visiting family and friends...

                Cheers

                  James,
Loads of beautiful girls for real? I should be the envy of mankind. Thanks! And of yes, don't forget to teach me that 'secrets to absolutely absolute riches' yeah? ;-)

                  Stuart,
Andrew Hansen told me that Japanese people in general are nice. So why the tranquilizers? Ah, I get it. It's for Kevin Riley and his merry men. Those thugs, I tell you...

                      Ed,

Unless it's suggested by James otherwise, you might want to bring a set of black suit, black pants, black shoes and WHITE silky tie and shirt for the wedding (black tie is for funeral).

Almost every man there will more likely wear that. You might stand out if you happen to wear something light color even though it's summer.

But it's international wedding so James might have something else in mind. Traditionally though, people wear those.

                          Kevin,

Hey I have an idea. There is a famous Onsen right by where James lives called Iizaka Onsen (Onsen is a term for public hot spring for those people following this thread).

And Ed should have an opportunity to wear Yukata (Kevin, you might have a picture of you wearing this from your blog).

Not a wedding attire, but something I think Ed could truly enjoy and experience culture and the food to go with it.

Man, I so want to go to the wedding.

My 80+ year old grandparents called me from there yesterday. They didn't seem to know where Las Vegas was. I had to explain it was in America.

Edmund, yukata is like bath robe. You wear it at onsen. Also, ther is fancier yukata like Rieko wears to summer festival (scroll to bottom):

No cold weather in Sept/Oct. September can still be quite hot and muggy in Osaka, but I think Fukushima is cooler. Gotta ask those northerners.

Takuya, Iizaka Onsen is not bad, tho the water is mad hot. Our favourite spot here is up at Takayu Onsen and a couple of other secret mountain onsen in that area.

Yes, plans are well under way to see Edmund dressed in a Fundoshi and Waraji, then paraded down the streets of Fukushima for all and sundry to inspect. Stay tuned for the photos.

The weather will be very comfortable and maybe we'll start to get a glimpse of the Autumn change of colours.

I know Edmund wants to bring those nice fitting swimmers to Fukushima,
but the closest beach is 100 km's over the mountain range.

But unless there is a topless bicycle road race going on at that time,
then I guess it will be ok. I'll keep you posted!

JB there is no way you have peeps prepped for Edmund. Nah-uh.

Now there is no way I am even considering it. Didn't even think

          Hi Edmund,

I'll be in Singapore until at least the end of November (I'm arriving next Tuesday) and I'll be taking trips out around India, China, Australia, and wherever else seems like a good idea. But my sister lives in Singapore so I'm going to be based from there so I can see her. I'll be renting a serviced apartment for the time so I have somewhere to work from and my sister lives close to Orchard Road, so I'll be in that area quite a lot for all the times I'm in Singapore.

If you're going to be around in Singapore over the next few months we can probably meet up there as it'll be easier and more chances.

          nothing to see here.

      Howdy Edmund,

I'll be heading up from my ricefield to JB's too. Let me know if you want me to meet you at the airport or we can arrange traveling up to Fukushima together from Tokyo. Should be fun. Late September....maybe you'll even get to see some snow up there. LOL

          Kelvin,
Haha no actually but ever since that stump Mas Selamat terrorist dude got away, immigration has had more complications. It generally takes a longer time going in and out of the immigration especially at peak hours. Nonetheless, I do come down now and then to Singapore.

          Andy,
Ok cool so no hurries actually. I'm nearby most of the time. You go ahead on your trips - we can meet up anytime here and looks like I won't be the only one asking for your autograph.

          Jhong Ren,
Not possibly going there to wed more couples right?

          James B Allen,
James Brown said he'd offer to meet me at the airport (with Stuart Stirling) but can you just check with him first?

          Nathanial,
I was in transit at the Doha airport near middle this year. Dubai must had been nearby on the map.

          Kevin,
          Engrish? Did someone say Engrish???

            Hey,

            I didn't know that JB's getting married?

I'll be at Tokyo on late September, so that'll be great if I could join the gathering :-)

            Who's going to organize this?

              Edmund:

Its true la. Border crossing takes longer now. Used to be "your" side took longer. Now its "our" side that takes ages. In any case, next time you're here and you have a bit of time, let me know -- I'll take you to a nice char kway teow place!

                Fidens,

I'm coming because I've been invited to James Brown's wedding but of course to come only for the wedding isn't making full use of the trip. So... yes, I'll be visiting Tokyo. No fixed agenda yet but I trust the J-Warriors will show me around. Hope I don't go back speaking Engrish, of course.

Well, thought I'd better drop in on this thread...

First, technically we've (Mari & I) been married for the past 15 months. This is
just our wedding celebs for friends and family (from Australia) to enjoy with us.

Second, plans are well under way for a product creation session or three here
in Fukushima! Stuart and I are busy planning out the whole deal. Just waiting
                  on confirming who'll be coming.

Fidens, I added you to my skype, hit me up there and I will get you an invite
to the party and whats going on here in Fukushima.

                  Cheers
                  JB

Forget about Tokyo & really getting much sightseeing done... honestly, you're
going to be that darn busy with the girls I've organised to accompany you on
                    some rather daring adventures here...
