Having a Squeeze Page & a Wordpress Blog on a Single Domain Name

This may not be rocket science to some warriors, but I thought I'd share it anyway so that it might help some newbie's who didn't realize that this was possible.

I have a squeeze page that fits on my domain name that I drive traffic too, but if you didnt realize, you can also use that same domain name (with a sub page) for a full wordpress blog.

Firstly, go to your cpanel and upload your domain name if you havent already done that. The domain name needs to be there to have wordpress loaded onto it, although you aren't going to actually load wordpress onto the main domain name

What you then need to do, is download a piece of software to allow you to edit HTML pages. I like to use Kompozer as it's free and does everything I need it to do.

Then download some free squeeze pages. (If you do a google search, you'll find some 1 page templates for squeeze pages)

If you dont have a free product you can giveaway yet, try and find something that you can have free giveaway or resell rights to, and use that, or else you could create your own product, or even reword some plr product to make it your own.

Now that you have the product, the squeeze page, and the ability to customize your squeeze page with a product like Kompozer, you're almost ready to go. (I'm assuming for the purposes of this that you have an autoresponder service setup already- if not go to Aweber, and join for $1 for the first month. You need an autoresponder in order to be able to collect leads)

Anyway, you now need to customize the squeeze page, with your own headline, giveaway offer, and aweber opt in form. Once you are happy with this, you now need to upload this to your own domain name. (I'm assuming you've already gone to somewhere like godaddy, and purchased a domain name, as well as also purchased hosting from a hosting provider- if you need more info about this, please PM me)

Now you need an ftp server (File Transfer Protocol). This enables you to upload your squeeze page to your domain name. Use filezilla for this as again its free and works well.
Your squeeze page needs to be called index.html in order for it to show on your site. You will also need to ftp a download page for your giveaway product, as well as a thank you page, and you will also need to ftp upload your giveaway pdf product, and any images.

Now your squeeze page should be live and working (please test it to ensure all the pages load as they should, and even test out the aweber form to ensure everything arrives as its supposed to)

Now go back to Kompozer, and create another page, what's on it doesn't really matter too much as you wont be using this content that you create on Kompozer. Called this 'blog' and save it to a folder on your computer. (It will end up being saved as 'blog.html'

Now go to filezilla, and log in, now on the right hand side locate the files that are your squeeze page, and then on the left hand side locate the new 'blog.html' file you created. Drag this to the domain name folder, and make sure it gets copied.

Next, you need to open up your cpanel again and click on Wordpress under popular choices. This will give you option to do a new installation which you click on, when asked which domain to install on, choose the domain name you are working on.Where it says 'install in directory' write the word 'blog' (without the speech marks) and then fill in the rest of the details, admin password, etc as you want them.
Click 'install wordpress' and you're good to go.

Once all done (and you've remembered to email yourself a copy of the setup) yoiu should see it as a 'current instaaltion' in your list, just click on 'vist site' and then enter your admin area as normal, and start changing themes, plugins, etc.

This way you will now have a squeeze page on your main domain (www.yourdomain.com) that you can promote and send traffic to, as well as a blog (www.yourdomain.com/blog.html) that you can update whenever you want, and that will have the ability to rank in the search engines better. You can even provide a link back to your squeeze page, which should help drive extra traffic to it.

Hope this helps anyone that didnt realize this was possible

I bought a package of 20 WP page templates that allows me to set up squeeze pages, sales pages , etc, all on the same blog. In other words, I can make all types of different pages within my blog and then just change the link to fit my needs in the WP interface.

It's got video skins, squeeze page, sales page templates, review sites, landing page templates, etc.

Unfortunately this is not very good advice. I'm not sure what the blog.html thing is all about.

A much better way to do things (for the search engines especially) is to just install the blog on the root of your domain and then add your squeeze page as any page you want on your domain.

    Simple.

Or better yet, just get a theme like Optimize Press and be done with it.

Even if you wanted to setup things like you were talking about above, its a lot simpler than your instructions.

    1. Use fantastico to install a new wordpress blog in directory /blog/ so it will show up as website.com/blog.

    2. Upload your squeeze page to the root of your domain and rename as index.html.

    Done.

Great advice. I've done this exact setup, and added multiple niche-oriented (non-wordpress) squeeze pages to the "back end," linked to the blog. It's all very versatile and easy.

To have a blog like this effectively behind your squeeze pages, with a link in the footer etc...

Would this have a negative/ positive or no impact on SEO and ranking??

Read your article with great interest! Am a newbie and this information is exactly what I have been looking for, however I still have a couple of questions that I am unclear about.
    1. What happens if I already have a site set up with Wordpress installed and now want to add a squeeze page as a promotion for an opt-in list, and a blog -- is this possible?
    2. I have a download PLR product, squeeze page with Aweber opt-in form.
      • My squeeze page is saved as index.html
      • My download page is saved as productname-download.html
      • I have not yet set up an email campaign since I don't have a list yet - this is what I am trying to create here.
    3. What folder do I choose or do I have to create a folder and if so, where? I use HostGator which supports c-panel.
    4. I also have FileZilla and understand how to use it.
Would you consider communicating with me directly either via email or Skype please? I could really use some more explicit instructions.

Thanks for your consideration and while I eagerly await your response I will continue to muddle through.

Well, there are usually several options at any given juncture. Here is one (there are others).

I'm going to assume that WP is already setup on yoursite.com. You can create a directory called "product" (via file manager in cpanel or filezilla). So it is at your.site.com/product.

Now add the index.html into the product folder, and your download page too.

So, the file that is now at yoursite.com/product/index.html, people will see it automatically if they go to yoursite.com/product.

      So
yoursite.com will get you the front page of the blog and
yoursite.com/productwill get you the squeeze page.

      Hope this helps!

    Folks,

Is it a good idea to create sub-folders ( versus sub domains) if I want to create multiple squeeze pages that is link to the main domain, thereby promoting different products ?

    eg...
    yoursite.com (main )
    yoursite.com/squeezepage1/index.html
    yoursite.com/squeezepage2/index.html
    yoursite.com/squeezepage3/index.html

Without knowing any other details, yes I would usually recommend using folders instead of subdomains.

        Hi all,

I have gone through the above posts but have been a bit  from all the expert talks out there. Can someone please explain the following to me in newbie talk if need be - it will be much appreciated

I have a domain name, lets call it maindomain dot com

I have created a squeeze page in Wordpress. To do this I downloaded a plugin and installed it (in Wordpress) on my FTP Server under the folders public_html/wp-content/themes/SQUEEZE PAGE

I want my squeeze page to be linked to my domain name. But for some reason when I type in my domain name I have to "log in" to Wordpress - when I look at the website of my squeeze page it appears as
maindomain dot com / sp / squeeze page

From the above discussions I believe I need to move some folders in my FTP file server - I use FileZilla. Can someone please assist / help so that I am able to type in maindomain dot com and have my squeeze page appear?

        Many Thanks,
        Adrian from Australia

He's just trying to help newbies who don't always know what's possible.
Actually, he gives completely misleading advice. I understand the enthusiasm and the willingness to help - but newbies are better off NOT TO FOLLOW the OP because it is wrong in many regards, unfortunately.

    E.g.
    - you do NOT upload a domain to your host/server - ever!
    - you don't need a file/page called "blog.html" to be able to install WP in a subdirectory (not a file!) called "blog"
    - NO, your blog will not be at example.com/blog.html - instead it will live in the subfolder example.com/blog/

It is a very long and confusing 'article'; its main message is: you can install WP in a subdirectory and have something else in the root of the domain.

I believe that many people struggle to figure out how to add a squeeze page to a wordpress blog so I created a free report detailing how to add any squeeze page to a wordpress blog without affecting your current theme.

I think anyone wishing to sell anything should be building their site using the wordpress platform.

Spiegly is just a cookie stuffer, if you see the "more posts by" bit, he has links in his posts you can only see when you look at all of his posts.

You need to report people like this and certainly don't listen to anything they say, they're just here to spam the forum. Spiegly will be banned soon.

Basically you go the the persons avatar bit and click their name. You get a drop down that gives you options, click "see more posts by...", when you get there you will notice that they have 1, 2 or 3 URL's.

These are hidden links. I'm not sure exactly how they work but I think they put cookies on your computer so that, say you went to ClickBank and bought something and they had put ClickBank cookies on your computer, they'd get paid.

I'm not entirely sure though, I just find them very easy to spot and report them when I see them.

Regarding your question, I'm not exactly the most technically competent person. Istvan is the WP expert around here. You may be better off starting your own thread and state you need this explained in a manner a newbie could understand.

'pleasehelpmeout' If you do not want a blog then unless you intend to use something like optimizepress which I personally dislike then uninstall wordpress and work with the few files required to create your squeeze (optin) page.

PM me, I can send you a html template funnel ready for you to customise.

I've gone both ways on this:

Installing a squeeze page directly in my root directory. i.e.: my-site.com

I've also installed a squeeze page on my-site.com and my blog in a folder named my-site.com/blog

I think from now on, I will just create my blog in my root directory. If I need a separate Squeeze page, I will just create it and give it a different name.

In CPANEL, you can also directly upload a page into your directory without using any ftp software right in File Manager.

And you can created a page using the simple HTML editor. You can create the page using CPANEL and then edit it using the HTML editor. It is very clunky, so editing it in Kompozer is a great idea. You can just copy the code and paste it in the HTML editor.

My point is: there are a lot of different ways to accomplish the same thing.

This is a great newbie friendly thread...

I have a site dedicated to educating car buyers and I'm starting out with an ebook giveaway targeting people with challenged credit. The book giveaway is at www.mainsite.com/credit and the blog is www.mainsite.com. The blog will be my youtube videos with some explaining text. I'm confused as to if I should switch the names and have the book be on my main page to promote the name on youtube. I want to be able to link to the book from my youtube and Facebook pages and would rather them go straight to the ebook page. Also at some point I'm going to expand into more than bad credit and I want to maintain my main site name. Any suggestions on this would be much appreciated. Thanks.
