Success sourcing hard goods for online distribution?

Hey All,
Has anyone had success sourcing hard goods directly from manufacturers and selling them online?

I'm not referring to finding dropshipping merchants and setting up an online storefront. Rather, I am interested in people who can share their experiences finding a niche product, found a manufacturer who could make it (e.g. thru alibaba), bought inventory they stored themselves, and ultimately sold these products online.

    I do have some experiences.

    I source factory over-run from manufacturers in branded products and sold it on eBay for about five years.

    Unfortunately eBay changed their policy and require agreement from rights owners before I can list on their site. I have to end my booming business about 18 months ago.

    Thats what Andy Jenkins did with his sword site a2armory and brad fallon did with myweddingfavors... but they only did that after they had verified sales and profits with dropshipping. There used to be lots of info about it in stompernet. Dont know if its there anymore as stompernet is different now than it used to be...
