Please help me with my article marketing

Hi guys,

I'm new to IM and the path I took is the Article Marketing way. I have currently 175 live articles (with different pen names) and 10,661 article views but still no success. One of my articles on ezinearticles, "Successful Hair Growth Formulas" by Michael Price has 1048 views and "Hair Home Remedies For Dry Damaged Hair" has 811 views. The link on the resource box is pointing to the affiliate offer.

I need some advise how to ramp it up and actually make money.

Thanks.

What are you doing to index them?

What other things are your 175 articles about? Do they all relate to the hair niche?

Also, what are you doing to get traffic to your articles?

That is for the 16 different niches. But overtime, I learned to create new pen names for specific niches.

To tell you honestly, I have not done anything with traffic. I just relied with the right keyword phrases.

Nothing, so far.. Maybe the right keywords is the key. Look for keywords with 3000 or more searches a month, and less than 30,000 competition.

I've only taken a very brief glance at the 2 articles you mention so bear that in mind.

With the first article, "Successful Hair Growth Formulas", there's no compelling reason for the reader to click through at the end of the article. In fact I almost missed the links as they simply don't stand out. You have to offer the reader an answer to the question "What's in it for me?"

Just giving them something to read isn't enough, you have to persuade them that there's a benefit for them in following your advice.

The second article, "Hair Home Remedies For Dry Damaged Hair, has a more prominent resource box but that talks about regrowing hair. Now I don't know much about dry damaged hair, however I would suggest that someone who has dry hair probably doesn't want to know how to regrow hair but rather they want advice how to repair the damage instead.

With any article, be it on EZ or any other site, there has to be a flow from the headline which piques interest, through the body of the article which builds your credibility to the resource box which offers a solution. I would respectfully suggest that isn't happening with those 2 particular articles.

      Great point Nigel,

It never entered my mind to actually fix the articles.. All I thought, since it was getting a lot of hits, my articles was good.

Maybe your right.. I have to actually be in the mindset of the readers.

      Thank you!

Fixing the articles should have been one of your first thoughts. If you're already getting the hits, but just not getting the conversions... Then the salescopy or something else on the sales page is you're most likely problem. If you're getting conversions but just not enough traffic then you would leave the articles alone and focus on the traffic generation. You just have to break your system down and evaluate what parts aren't working.

Determine what part of your plan is getting the correct results and which parts aren't. Then think of which things affect the things that are working and eliminate them from your list of problems, then of the things that are left start with the most likely that would affect the things that aren't working and start there.

I probably worded that poorly. I hope you understand the concept though.

It's basic troubleshooting. You have to think a little bit like a detective.

There are things I don't really understand..

I get the hits and a good clickthru rate.. But low sales.

Maybe the presentation is the problem..

Well if you have a good clickthru rate then that means the visitors already are following the links to the sales page. In that case then you're article is already doing it's job (or enough of it's job anyway), but the sales page isn't converting. There's generally three possible reasons for that.
            1. It's a poor salespage that isn't converting the leads you send.
            2. The sales page doesn't meet the expectations the visitor has after reading your article.
            3. You're getting good traffic, but it's not targeted to exactly the right niche. For example, if your selling "widgets", then traffic looking for "free widgets" isn't going to convert. They might follow the links all the way to the sales page, but they aren't going to buy.
The first one is usually out of your control. You're only option in that case would be switching to a better product. It looks like that sales page is ok though. You can check the stats for that on the CB Marketplace. I imagine you did that before selecting it.

The other two things are part of your own efforts so you can do thing to improve those. You're already getting some good suggestions in this thread regarding how to improve your own articles. You should also try to evaluate the traffic. (It's easier to evaluate traffic when you have your own websites because you have stats to work with.) In you're case you'll need to just take a really critical look at the keywords and niche your targeting.

Someone suggested earlier in the thread that you might want to trim down some of the niches and keywords your targeting. They may be getting you a lot of the traffic, but that traffic isn't converting. Be more selective in what you target and you might notice a significant decrease in hits, but the traffic you do get might be more likely to buy. Try to narrow the list down to terms that will most likely be people willing to actually buy, not those that just might have some mediocre interest.

My guess is that the biggest problem you're having is actually with the traffic. You're getting visitors to the sales page, but they really aren't interested in buying. Fix that and you'll probably see an increase in sales. Fix the articles as well and you'll probably see even more, but only after you fix the traffic first.

The advice I am about to give you is the best advice anyone can give you right now!

Drop 15 of those niches. FOCUS on just one of them!

      Thank you for the advise.

I actually created different pen names for different niches. But it took me awhile to realize that.

"Jack of all traits" does not actually make any doe.

    Hi Cargen,

That's a lot of articles and quite a few views for no results.

If you don't already know then you need to learn how to get your articles ranked highly in the search engines - basically build backlinks to them.

It's also important that you know how to choose the right keywords or you'll be wasting your time. There are plenty of articles on my blog that go into more detail if you want to take a look.

I never learned how to rank my articles.. Maybe someday soon.

All the while, I thought I was doing good with getting alot of hits.

      Thank you for the advise.

Also, are you direct linking to the sales pages on your articles? If so, then you need to change that immediately - throw up some simple squeeze pages with opt-in forms, and send all your visitors to these squeeze pages instead of direct-linking. You'll get far better results when you build a list that you can market to repeatedly.

      ^^^^ This!!

There's no point in talking about, or looking at, or thinking about anything else at all (including even exactly how many niches you have) until you've done that. This is the big game-changer upon which everything else rests. There's no point in correcting anything/everything else, without having done that first.

  • I want you to go through your articles and read the conversion rates. I bet that most are in te sub 5% range. Take the best one you have (% not view numbers) and rewrite it. Make the resource box part of the conversation and write as much as you can in there (you have 300 characters).

Focus on conversion rates, if you are picking good keywords which I think you are, then conversion rates are what you need to focus on.

It really doesn't take much time to write a decent article. It's even easier when you're doing it in answer to a question. Most people that write long posts and articles on forums, don't actually spend as much time at it as you might think. lol

Another thing is by taking the extra step to give structure to the posts, add highlights, bullets, etc. will actually help improve your overall ability for when you want to crank out articles. The presentation of your content can often be as important and sometimes even more so than the actual content. Both are important so it's good to get to where it's so natural, it's almost harder not to do it.

I imagine Mr. Melencio hardly gives it any thought when he writes like that. It probably just flows out as though he's having a conversation. It's much more enjoyable to answer a question about something you know about than it is to just write random articles.

Alright...it seems to have 175 articles on Ezinearticles. Not bad, averaging over 9500 views. Well, to be honest, I have around 50 articles in Ezinearticles in one account and I got something over 5000 views.

So basically you need to do keyword research first of all.

Learning to be independent and earning, their own money is a very good practice for teenagers so they will know the importance of self-reliance and the value of money. Teenagers usually look for part-time jobs especially during summer to save money for their summer expenses since parents usually do not give allowances when there is no school. There are many ways for teenagers to make money. However, to make things simple, here are the 10 easy ways for teenagers to make money:

First way for teenagers to make money is doing work at home for your mom and dad. You can ask your mom and dad if there are certain things or task you can do at home like gardening and cleaning and negotiate it to them on how much the payment will be of you do the job.

Second is garage sale. If you have lots of stuffs and junks that you don't anymore like your old books, clothes, toys, comic books, magazines and other stuffs. You can also ask your parent if they have something to sell and make sure to ask permission from them before you sell stuff at home and suggest that you are willing to sell the items with a commission.

Third way for teenagers to make money is selling their own products like their artworks and handcrafted items. If you are good in cooking or baking simple foods, you can also try selling pastries and refreshments.

Fourth way is home-tutoring younger kids. This job may require a good amount of patience since you will be dealing with much younger kids but aside from earning money, you also get to help kids on their lessons.

Fifth way for teenagers to make money is selling stuff online. Teenagers can sell many things online. As I have mentioned from the third way on selling your artworks and handcrafted items, you can also sell them online on famous selling sites like eBay. You can also sell eBooks and articles online if you are very good in writing articles.

Sixth way is taking online surveys. Companies that are providing this job usually do not require age so teenagers can do this job.

Seventh way for teenagers to make money is babysitting. This is a traditional job for teenagers during non-schooling days. You get to earn money by babysitting little babies for a few hours depending on the work requirement you agreed to.

Eighth way is pet care. Sometimes, you even get paid by busy couples by just taking their pets especially pet dogs for a walk.

Ninth way would be to cleanup other houses especially your neighbor's house and lawn. During winter, the amount of money teenagers could earn just by scooping and cleaning pathways and driveways of snow will surprise you.

In addition, the last way to for teenagers to make money is by doing part-time jobs in department stores as helpers and attendants.

    1. Not so effective resource boxes.

    2. Not so engaging writing style - no bold words, no italicized words. No bullets.

    3. Not very original. No apparent EXTRA value from your articles that makes you special.

    4. Length - quite short. Shoot for more.

That's all I have time to say at the moment.

"Hair grows from the follicles and it is mostly made up of the protein called keratin."

This is your first sentence and the biggest problem. You are making a classic mistake far too many article writers make.

Imagine a mother frantically looking around a shopping mall. She can't see her child and she's getting worried. If you went up to her and said: "Young children are more naturally curious than adults. There is a great of evidence gathered from the fields of evolutionary biology and development psychology that suggest..." she would push you aside without even looking at your face.

However, if you went up to her and said, "Madam, is that your child over there?" she would turn and face where you are pointing and then run to her child.

People don't look to marketing articles to give them lectures, or discuss ideas with them. If they wanted encyclopedic entries they would go to wikipedia. They have a problem or they need something and all they want is to be pointed in the right direction. An effective article makes them go in the direction the author wants them to.

    Thanks.
Hi cargen, as you can see by all of your responses there are alot of different things you can do and often many people will have conflicting advise.

The best thing you can do is take a step back and look at the "big picture."
You want to build an online business. Not an online promotion. Writing articles with an afiliate link at the bottom is definatly just a promotion.

The same fundamental rules of business apply to the online world. Add massive amounts of value to the customer and they will be tripping over themselves to give you money.

As mentioned already by a few other Warriors, stick to one niche until you have made it profitable. Don't send people to the affilate offer. Send them to your own squeeze page. Some will opt in and now you can build up a trust worthy relationship with them, (and now you have a long term business rather than a short term promotion.) Once they trust you, you can send them to as many relevant affiliate offers as you want and they will be far more likely to buy from you. Just make sure the offers are good other wise you will lose their trust and in turn, their money.

This is very brief but I hope it helps you in some way.

@elrascal - You've given cargen some good advice and some things to think about as he ramps up his Internet Marketing career.

I actually agree with all of it, but I thought I'd make an additional reply regarding this part.

      ...
The cool thing about the type of article marketing cargen is doing now though is that there are NO EXPENSES yet. (Hence the term Bum Marketing - "Since it costs no money to get started, even a bum can do it." )

You're absolutely right that it's better to send the visitors to your own squeeze page. In fact I also think that at any stage in the process whenever you make the final links to a vendor sales page, it's best to make the link to a domain that you control, with a redirect to the vendor sales page. That way *no matter what* you maintain control of all the backlinks you've made wherever they are. But the sooner you do things like that, the more likely you'll start having expenses.

Eventually everyone will move on to additional things that might have expenses, because it'll actually make them more money as well. But until then, Bum Marketing is still a great way for someone to get started.

If cargen can tweak the campaigns he's working on to learn how to make the marketing effective, then he'll be able to make the money he needs to start moving on to even more lucrative plans. What he learns from this promotion will only make everything even easier when he does start investing in better strategies.

cargen is ahead of the game for most of the people that start learning about IM. He's already taking action.

Bum Marketing is proven to be effective. If he can do some troubleshooting on his campaign and learn to make it work, then when he does start moving on to better methods he'll have a really great chance of success as he builds up an actual business.

        Hi Cargen,

One thing you are not doing quite right is directing your target visitors straight to the affiliate links.

In today's IM, potential buyers needs to be reminded of your product and why they should patronize it because there are more competitors coming up daily.

You may be surprised to realize that many of those that visit your affiliate links might end up buying similar products when they are ready the next day simply because they could not locate your link.

It is much better to have them drop their emails and tactically follow them up without trying to splash sales to their desk tops.
