Which article directories to submit to now?

With the major article directories taking a well-deserved hit in Google, surely it cannot be worth submitting to any more than possibly 2 or 3 at this point. Anybody have an opinion on this?

  • Hi,

I had an article on goarticles go straight to page 1 nr 1 on all G,Bing and Yahoo..so looks like goarticles and articlebase are good..for me anyway.

Thanks. My understanding is that backlinks from article directories are of very little value, so the best I can hope for is that some publisher picks one of my articles and places it on a site with similar content as mine, and then follow up with the publisher to hopefully have them add more. I don't care all that much if an article on an article directory actually ranks because I'll never build backlinks to them, so I can't see any benefit to submit to maybe more than a handful any longer.

      Does this make sense?
  • I'm actually looking at all of this recent drama as a sign that it's time for me to start putting my primary focus on building MY OWN blogs. I'll still do article marketing, but certainly not at the scale I used to... which was just a few days ago (lol).

I'll still submit to EZA, AB, GO, and maybe some 2.0 sites (Hub, etc.) consistently, but I'm going to start focusing a lot more now on building authority blogs with my own unique content with photos, links, banners, and whatever the heck else I want to!

This is a tough pill to swallow since a HUGE part of my traffic and earnings have come from specifically submitting articles to EZA. But I guess that's what I get for not listening to so many people on here (John Schwartz, Alexa Smith, and many others I'm forgetting at the moment) about building your own blogs first and also focusing most of your attention on building lists as well.

Now sure I've had some VERY strong liquor more than usual over the past couple of days :p, but I'm looking at this with exactly what my signature says: Improves, adapt, and overcome.

Thanks. From now on, I think I'll stick with a small number of article directories for the sole purpose of getting them republished. Traffic will be a bonus. I think it will make life simpler and easier.
  • Wrong question my friend

    What you should be asking is;

Which authority blog owners in my niche are accepting guest posts and how do I go about searching and contacting them.

Thanks and your thoughts are appreciated. May I ask how many article directories you employ as part of your efforts to accomplish the goals you described above?
  • You cannot be more wrong.

  • Backlinks from article directories are amongst the "strongest" you can actually get for many reasons. Ask Dan from linkvana reviews or any other competent person.

The observed results for rankings from article directory backlinks OFTEN surpass services like blog networks etc.

The question is whether the recent changes in SERPs (rankings) also affect their link strength. I hope not.

Edit: If i say "amongst the strongest", i mean compared to links like blog commenting, profiles etc.

    • Lol, I actually shortened my post to;

at most maybe the top 5 article directories as they recive the most traffic(did) and are actively managed and run. The authority blogs are different, you have to search them out yourself, most of the time.

With this said, is it still worth submitting articles to 100s of article directories?

If I post a blog comment on a blog with content very similar to my site, this is still a weaker link that an backlink from a place like Buzzle, Ezine Articles or Go Articles, with page rank of the page the article sits on being the same between the blog and the article directory?

    • It was never about the directories per se, but rather the lean content being submitted for nothing more than backlinks. Perhaps now the real value of these directories may be realized as a source for syndication of your articles. This has always been the model for many of the most successful writers - as one of many types of resources to showcase quality articles. I don't plan on changing this at all any time soon.

  • GoArticles
    ArticlesBase
    ArticlesDashboard
  • I have used Ezine Articles. They are one of the biggest and best as I understand. Is there something wrong with Ezine that I am not aware of?

    Nancy Fleck
  • The only article directories I use right now are GoArticles, ArticleBase and sometimes EzineArticles.

I've had great success with the first two.

  • For those that were concerned EZA will not be making the links in the author's resource box "NoFollow" links. Chris has decided to keep the links in the author's reource box "DoFollow".

That was announced on their blog this morning in the comments section to his post yesterday.

    Respectfully,
    Tim

    • IMO: Your all missing the point:-

Google is running a business..yes? They don't want IM's screwing up their results i.e. Let's second guess Google and pull the wool...

No matter how smart we get or think we get..just when all is nice a cozy wam..

This is why all the IM sites got zapped in the first place..too much Clickbank and CPA stuff being served up..

Yes, you can do it but, you have to pay for the priveledge with the big G..under the relevency flag of course...

Ask yourself this simple question: How many sites are on the net and all trying to get a piece of the action?...

It's not going to happen.. period!

You need to be very creative to survive...

Flooding eza with articles worked for a while but, now the party is over..

      Change or go down!

      A Rant.

      For now.

Once he finds that Google keeps EZA in the penalty box, and no changes happen to improve EZA's traffic over the next six months, he will take drastic action for sure.

      And it's much-needed.

  • I believe the correct answer is: it depends on what you're trying to achieve with your articles.
  • just Google any keyword of yours and check what article directories will come out, so they are the ones you need to submit to.

  • A lot of people are panicking and quite a few are jumping on the "build a relationship with an authority website and guest post bandwagon".

As an authority site owner if my email gets filled up with people trying to nab guest posts on my site I won't be opening many emails.

Think of it from my point of view. I don't go to article directories now and use any of their content. Because its 99% spam. I get my articles written by professionals and most of the time I pay them.

My biggest fear from this google move is that my inbox is going to be filled with spam from former 'article marketers'.

My advice to the better writers is to get in now and get relationships built before site owners become sick to death with requests.

To the no-so-good writers I'd suggest hiring a team of writers. Pay nothing less that 100 bucks an article - to ensure at least minimal quality - and use these articles to build relationships between you and authority sites.

If you're feeling tight, think of spending 100 bucks on a permanent link rather than in terms of money-per-words.

To anyone else reading this. The herd will stampede, leave the article directories and their waste will be deleted. Just keep on submitting as decent quality as you can and things will pick up for you.

    • Well, I honestly don't know where to begin with this.

      "Jumping on the syndication bandwagon?"

I build relationships with high authority sites and they use my articles because they are exactly what they want. This is also what Bill Platt and Alexa Smith do, they are very good at it and highly respected here.

Most people don't even think about syndication and have no idea how to build the said relationships and guest post as it should be done.

In fact I'd say as high as 99% of article marketers believe article marketing only involves mass submission to every directory and hoping these articles on directories get them sales, or they link back to their sites in the belief they have a high PR backlink. I hear a lot of these "marketers" saying they don't want there articles syndicated in case a nasty man removes their link (which again shows how little they know about true syndication)

I appreciate where you are coming from but just can't see it happening. I don't even think the directories will take a hit.

I'm not however scared of these marketers getting on the "syndication bandwagon", it involves too much work and effort. That's why spinners and mass submission tools are so popular. You only have to read a few threads here to realise that most people think people like Alexa are wrong and they know better, only very few, listen to what the likes of her say and try it to any modicum of success.

Most people want quick money and forget they are actually trying to create a business. If the directories do take a hit, something new, shiny and easy to do, will no doubt come along.
      • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • I have a list of 100 article directories if anyone needs them. Not sure if i should paste them here or not
  • All of the directories are being hit pretty much the same. The top directories are still the top directories. They simply won't be as effective as they were before. In my opinion the top three directories are ezine, go article, and articlebase.
