Is this a good conversion rate? 14 sold out of 789 visits

Hi everyone

Need advice from experienced marketers.

I recently created and launched a product.

My conversion rate is something like this:

Product Price: $97
Unique Visits: 789
Products Sold: 14

So that is 14 products sold out of 789 visits to the page. ( 2% approx )

Is that a good conversion rate ? What is the average to expect?

I know it varies depending on niche but would like to get advice from you experienced marketing.

Many thanks in advance

  • For the standard sub-$100 Clickbank product, a 1% to 1.5% conversion rate is pretty much standard assuming A) you got a good sales page and B) traffic is coming from a somewhat targeted source (for example, a banner in a niche-related blog or forum).

So yes, without having more info, I'd say that a 2% conversion rate on a $97 product is not too bad.

Yes, 2% is a good conversion rate, especially for a $97 product.

On a side note, I can't help but notice that most marketers are focused on the conversion rate. There's another form of conversion that potential JV partners may want to know, and that is the value per visitor (learned this from Alex Mandossian).

So in your case, you get $1358 (14 sales X $97) for every 789 visits, making it $1.72 value per visitor, which is very good.

Compare that to a product converting at 4% but sells only for $20. That would be 4 sales out of 100 visitors. So that would be $80 for every 100 visits, making it $0.8 value per visitor.

If you think about it, you beat products with higher conversion rates but with a lesser price.

Wow .. thanks for that wonderful break down and explanation. That really makes sense ... I think what I am mostly trying to figure out is whether my product is worth pursuing in this market or not ... but gauging from the feedback you guys are giving I feel more confident. Thank you very much for taking the time ... Many thanks

You should only "feel confident" based on the answer to the following:

          1. What did the traffic cost you? (time is the largest cost, not money...)

If the cost is too high, then no, you are NOT doing well. If the cost was low, enough to the point where your ROI is strong, then yes, you're doing well.
2% could be fantastic, or, 20% could be awful. It all depends on what it cost you to get those 14 sales.

You're absolutely right. Yes I am still profitable after costs of getting the traffic are calculated in the mix. So roughly ... I got $1400 in sales and my cost to get that was around $300 leaving me with a profit of approximately $1000 .... my hope is that since many of these people who did not buy yet are on my list then I would expect to increase conversions in the long run.

I'm not sure whether you used paid traffic to build your list, but even if you paid around 85 cents per subscriber (which is realistic), you'd still be getting 100% ROI on your ad spend. (Obviously, you paid a lot less for your traffic, so your return on investment here is absolutely fantastic!)

Oh, is it from your OWN list? Hmmm then 2% is not that high I'm afraid.

Traffic from your own list should be at least double than conversions from someone else's list, which should be at least double than conversions from cold banner-clicking traffic.

i think that's great considering the price point. Not out of this world, but yes, quite a decent conversion rate you have going there.

I hope you have a system in place to collect the visitor's name and eMail.

    ================================================

    Another thing you can consider...

Throw the conversion rate out the door and just figure if your return is bringing in enough profit to make it worth your while. If so, you're good to go.

I'm sure there's a definition or acronym for that. Hmm?

I have had several questions so I am going to post extra details. While I cna not reveal the exact niche I will give a brief overview:

        1. I drive traffic to a squeeze page which gives away free ebook

        2. My autoresponder then sends out 7 pre-loaded with sales emails spaced out over several days.

        3. Traffic goes to sales page which sells the $97 product

(ps: and no the product is NOT in the IM or make money niche )

        Hope that helps.

I think that close to a 2% conversion rate in any niche is pretty respectable, especially on a $97 product, and I'm pretty sure that without your autoresponder follow-up messages you wouldn't be getting anywhere near that conversion rate.

Good effort mate. Make sure that you save them up in a particular "buyers" list so that you can sell even more to them because they've already proven to be buyers

You'll make even more than $97 only if you try and get out of your comfort zone for a while when it comes to upsells and such.

What I find interesting about conversion rates is that say you have 1000 on your list and 10 buy your $20 product.

Then presumably if you had the 10 buyers on your list and the other 990 were not there, you'd get 100% conversion.

But in either case you make the same number of sales.

And the same profit of $200.

So which is better the 100% or the 1%?

There are many factors in conversion rates - who is on your list / site? are they in a buying mood when you contact them? do they trust you or your site? and finally is the product/offer presented to them effectively?

Maybe the question is "not is this a good conversion rate?" but "can I make it better?"

It could be the best it could be, or it could be improved by improving one of the factors that affect conversions.
