How to Market to Other Countries

Hello everyone,

I've been investigating something recently. I am trying to find out how to market specifically other countries.

I know people have been doing it for a while now, and for good reason. There's a HUGE market and amazing potential.

For example, something I could get $10 for with a US based market I could easily pull in $100 for in some other countries.

There's massive potential there but I am still confused on how to actually target these areas.

What if I wanted to specifically target Scandinavia? Or Austrailia? Or India? etc etc etc.

How would I target specific countries to grab the most out of each campaign?

With most PPC networks I am pretty sure you can target by country. I know that you can do this with Facebook Ads. That would be a good way to go.

I would recommend Facebook ads over PPC networks keeping the current scenario in mind. Adwords give you the option to target counties specific markets and i believe that's what you are looking at

Build a website with country specific domain/TLD (.in for india, .eu for europe and so on), PPC/SEO on it.

I would be interested in this also.

I suppose you need to use some other affiliate networks if selling physical products. For example if you are selling to Australians then find a physical product network there to sell products to the Aussies.

I suppose a .au domain name ending would be good if you wanted to target the aussie market. But of course the .com and .net and .org domains give you more universal coverage.

Using the google keyword research tool and selecting the countries you want to market in and will give you an idea of the traffic there.

          Anyone else have other ideas?

I don't know if this will help, but I will be launching a WP plugin soon that will automatically translate your page to a native language based on their location. For example if they are located in Spain, when they visit your page it will automatically translate it into spanish. So once you get the traffic to your page this plugin may increase your conversions. PM if you want more information.

You can run PPC ad campaigns in those region. You can even choose timings according to that country. Optimize your site for your keywords in the local search engines as well as local versions of major search engines like Google ( in India, it is Google. co .in )
Engage and make friends and associations from those countries on social networking sites and then sell your product or services.

At the heighth of our international website sales in the past 10 years, approximately 70% of our business was from outside the USA and we sold products/services into over 70 countries. In building our site I never really attempted to do translated web pages since English is the 2nd most spoken language in the world and is still the primary language of doing business in the world (but for how long I am not so sure).

I do recall attempting to register our site with some of the country specific search engines, however, that never really resulted in any (if any) traffic and most evolved into becoming country specific, meaning if your site was hosted in the USA, you could not register it in their database.

Although our site is primarily focused on international business products/services, some of our primary products/services have gone the way of the dodo bird and I would say about 1/3 of our inquiries are foreign to the USA but still some of those can be quite significant.

We had one last year from Spain that purchased $1,000 of a particular service we offer to evaluate it and ultimately come back and purchase $9,000 more.

Prior to posting this reply I did a quick search in Australia's and India's google search engines and our site and blog show up on page 3 of Austrailia and on page one of India so I really believe it is best to focus on getting your site ranked well and in doing so you will get the international exposure you seek.

One other thing I noted in the two foreign google se's was they have adword ads displayed - I also changed my location of search to brisbane au and it changed the results to bring up my blog to page one but site is still on page 3 (intersting?). I would think if what you are considering has a $90 differential that PPC might be worth a test in addition to focusing on getting your site ranked in general SERP's?
