Feel Like I'm drowning!

Hey Warriors,

I have now been searching, reading and researching IM for the past 3 months. I have bought and tried a couple of CB products that really don't deliver all they promised. I do however have a much better understanding of the concepts involved and some of the tools available.

I am willing to work hard and spend time building a business. I don't want to spend anymore money if possible. I feel I have spent enough. I obviously am happy to buy hosting and domains if needed.

I have spent hours browsing the forum. The more I read the more confused I become.Does anyone please have any advice of what I should do now and how I should start? I need some sort of direction, I would be most grateful!

The problem you have is that you don't have a business.

IM is much simpler when you have a business and are looking for how IM can help/support that business.

IM is not a business in itself.

The reason you're struggling is because you're looking for tools without a context within which to use them.

    STOP!!!!

You need to think of an internet business like you would any other.

Would you think of setting up a sporting goods store 'without spending any money'?

Would you go into business as a plumber without all the right training and tools?

You couldn't even give a presentation on astro-physics without several years invested in full time education.

But you want 'an internet business' based on a few months of tinkering around and not wanting to spend money?

Your real problem is your expectations.

I know, I know - all the sales letters and WSOs keep telling you that making money online is quick and easy and with a couple of blogs and some article writing you should be able to quit your day job - it's not real!!!!

Do not let other people's sales messages dilude you into thinking that somehow you're missing out on the quick and easy money everyone else seems to be getting.

Right now you don't have a business - so working out which IM stuff you need doesn't even make sense.

Decide what your business is first - and then it will all make sense quickly.

Hi there and welcome to the Forum. I have to agree with Andy.

I spent MUCH longer than 3 months flailing around trying to figure out IM as well, and then struggling with information overload from all the emails I had opted into...and one day, I did just STOP. I spent over an hour unsubscribing.

You might want to start with Affiliate Marketing because you can promote a product or service and all the tools (banners, emails, links, keywords, etc) are already provided for you, you just have to drive traffic to a site, a blog or no site at all.

I would start with Amazon because they are a trusted site and people there are already looking to buy, even with a lower commission, you can do well with volume. There are some free ebooks that can walk you through step-by-step to get you started and then as things make more sense.....you can build on that and decide if you want to build your own business, or promote more affiliate products.

I came across this blog post by Dave....its long, but it's thorough....
How To Make Money With Amazon: An Affiliate Marketing Guide | Make Money On The Internet

I started with affiliate marketing while working on my own product. I'm in this for the long haul so patience is important.

Coming here will certainly benefit you as well and I'm sure you'll receive a lot of additional advice from others.

      Cheers & Good Luck Sofistikat,

Information overload is probably the No1 problem for a lot of upcoming marketers just starting out and most of that is because of the dozens of spammy mailing lists they're on. This just creates an endless amount of time reading through hyped up emails and salesletters which do nothing but drain your time, your wallet and your desire.

So, unsubscribe from all the garbage you get sent and only buy tools that are going to help you achieve your goals such as link submitters, article spinners etc. Don't buy into anymore hyped up sales junk cos it doesn't work.

Focus on one thing at a time such as list building, blog content, product creation etc and avoid running around like a headless chicken always looking for a shortcut cos there's not many out there. I do suggest you get good at list building and look into creating and selling your own products though as ultimately that's what's gonna give your a solid, long lasting business and not just a quick buck through affiliate sales here and there.

This forum will have loads of info about how to go about building a decent list, as well as how to start looking at creating your own products. Then it's just a matter of scaling those things up once you get better at them. Good luck.

With regards tools or software to get if I had to give one tip it would be to get optimizepress. It's a seriously effective wordpress theme that will make the whole marketing thing so much easier and cheaper for you.

          Hi there,

It is easy to get overwhelmed with so much information. There are multiple things you can do online. One way to get started is with a product oriented site. Pick a niche (after determining competition etc.), select some good keywords to go after, build a site and promote it.

So that is a simple 4 steps. So approach it step by step.

Take the first step niche selection and go to Amazon, find a product that has good sales, great reviews etc. that you can compete for and build a site around it.

It is really not that hard when you break it down into steps.

If you are not at the point where you know how to promote, select keywords etc. I would recommend that you take a reputable course and follow it (ignoring all other distractions for the time being).

If you need help with that pm me and I will send you a list of courses, some of which are free.

  • Please listen to the interview I did with Christopher Penn of Marketing Over Coffee here: Special Interview with Markco | Marketing Over Coffee#

In this interview we talked about getting OFF the "hamster wheel" as I call it of push button marketing.

What you're doing now, and which others are telling you as well, is moving from strategy to strategy without having a business to begin with.

Learn to take inventory of what you have and create a business out of it!

    Hope this helps you,

    Chris

Becoming overwhelmed and taking no action are the number one reasons why people fail in internet marketing. Without a product of your own you are better off with affiliate marketing. You can choose to use a number of places to find what you would like to refer to others.

You need to keep in mind that you are not selling. You are matching a person looking for something to a product that will help them. Let the sales page of the product do the actual selling. You are essentially a match maker.

Find a product you are interested in.
Put up a free blog using squidoo, hubpages, blogger, etc. Which ever you like best.
Put on this blog interesting and unqiue content that will make your reader want to look at the product.
Write articles and submit them to article directories linking back to your blog.
Put your articles Rss feeds as well as your blogs Rss feed into RSS directories.
Pick one or two bookmarking site and bookmark your articles or your blog or both. So not spam the bookmarking directories with you content because they will delete your account without warning.

When you feel like you have enough content pointing to your blog for backlinks then move on and do this again.

Do your keyword research first to find low competition keywords that you can rank for.

Do this again and again. You will not make money overnight and some campaigns you will not make any money at all. It takes time before you will see any real results. Nut without action you will never make any money at all.

At some point you are going to have to spend some money on training products. There are some out there that will give you step by step instructions but they have to weeded out from the junk.

    Good Luck
    Laura

Yeah, I agree! You first need to determine what business YOU want to be in. If you just buy info products you will just be chasing someone else's business. You need to find YOUR business and build it.

Here are a few general directions that you could go in:

    - blogging

    - offer service on fiverr

    - start an ecommerce site

    - sell on ebay

    - sell on amazon

    - write an info product and try to sell it here or CB

So, basically just pick something and stick with it. Then uses learning to enforce what you are doing
