Question about lists when selling a site

Hello WF,

I have a niche website that collects emails, and I am thinking of selling it. The site has collected about 4000 emails and thus I now have a 4000 people email list, all targeted emails for the niche of the website.

Now, when selling that website, what do I do with that list? Questions:

- Is there a way to sell Aweber lists / is it legal? What would that list be worth? (the latter wasn't a real question, I think it depends on so many things...)
- What should I do with the list, then?

It really depends what your current privacy policy says. If it states that you will never sell, share, rent, or trade their email address with anyone, ever, then that's exactly what you have to do.

If your privacy policy states that in the event you sell your business you are entitled to sell your list as part of that business then you should be ok. The best outcome would be to have the list go to the person who is purchasing your niche website. That way the people on the list will not be getting contacted by someone they have never heard of before.

    Thanks for the response, Will.

The fact is that what I promised was just "no spam". And I never spammed my list!

Is there a way to transfer an Aweber list from an account to another account?

You can just do an export of all the contacts in an aweber list. They will be exported into an excel or csv file. The other person can then just upload that same file to their aweber account. The only catch is that all the subscribers will need to reconfirm they want to be on that list before the other person will be able to send them any emails at all. This is where your buyer will most likely run into problems. The only other option is to upload them to another autoresponder service that doesn't make your subscribers reconfirm.

Yeah definately sell it with the site. It makes the site worth a lot more if it has a list of 4000 emails as well, and also that list is definately worth the most in the hands of someone currently in the same niche!

I guess, only 1 person at one time should be owning the lists.

So if you sell off the lists, you can't use that aweber account you used to build the lists. This is what I think. If someone else has some more inputs please help the OP.
