Do user reviews increase conversion rate and by how much?

Hey Guys,
We are gathering up all of our customer reviews that have come through email and other online review sites and compiling them into one script on our site to rotate reviews.

The big question is, how much do reviews increase conversions?

I'm gonna start looking for the best resource for website reviews and try to send my visitors to one site to review us.

An exact number is impossible. A rounded percentage requires testing through avenues such as Google adwords.

In short yes a high quality review can really increase your sales dramatically...high quality

    Positive reviews always increase sales.

As others have said, it is hard to quantify by how much, because their are many factors that contribute to the final numbers. Not all reviews are equal, nor are all other factors equal.

I am just going to try embedding this review panel on my page and see what happens. I can't keep writing scripts for everything, it increases my development time too much. Anyone try revoew.com's review panel yet?

It all depends on the detail and perceived authenticity of the reviews. If you just have quotes like...

"This is awesome. I really love it" Bob Smith, USA

they will not be anywhere near as effective as something like...

"This helped me increase my optin rate by 42% in just 10 days." Bob Smith - www.website.com

See how the second review actually gives a real example of the types of results the product can achieve. Also having the website address next to the name of the reviewer makes it a lot more believable as people can visit the website and see it is a real person. Depending on the product, they may also be able to see it in action on the reviewers website.

A nice believable photo can also help add authenticity to your reviews. Try not to use photos that look like those ones taken from stock photo sites. Try and ask your customers for a regular everyday photo of them maybe on holidays or with their kids, etc. This will help to personalize the review.

    • If you get substantial traffic to the page, try A/B testing with and without reviews/testimonials until you reach statistical significance.

If you do this, please report back here as I'm sure we'd all appreciate a case study on this.

My instinct is that reviews/testimonials have a substantial impact but I've never directly tested it.

Correct! Todays online consumers are not stupid, they can tell whether reviews have any authenticity and relevance by a quick glance. For reviews to be really effective for conversion rates, they have to come from a trusted source.

Testseek.com helps online retailers to increase conversion rates by integrating unbiased editorial reviews and awards at their product pages. The reviews comes from well-known and trusted online publications (like pcmag.com etc).

An exact number of how much it increases conversion rates is impossible to give, but everything from a couple of percent to the double have been observed. It depends on the type of product, its popularity and how the implementation is done on the e-tailer's product pages.

Now as I work at testseek I am of couse biased but our service has proven its efficiency and if you are interested in trying it out, just let me know.

It depends so much on the perceived value of the reviews. Generally, text reviews are regarded as untrustworthy as they are easily falsifiable.

Video reviews have much more value. Although not impossible, it's way more harder to falsify video reviews.
