Research: Google Aglorithm Changes and it's effects

Before you commit suicide or do anything silly with your sites. Take into consideration that Big G decided to take a move on content Farms after launching the fast indexing system (Google Caffeine)

Read this- Google’s Algorithm Change in 2011 And Its Impact

Just read the post and share your thoughts and observations

For me, I haven't seen any significant change in my sites, traffic is still the same - maybe it's too early to tell but some people are already hit.

And by the way, now that article directories won't be in vogue what will be the smartest way of getting backlinks?

many sites seeing effects already. nothing to worry for sites that doesnt mass copy paste posts from others.

many big companies been criticizing google for that sites that copy their content was ranking better then theirs(original writers). its a good move of course.

I just finished reading the article and there is nothing in it that states article directories are no longer in "vogue". If anything, it affirms the opposite.

Here's an exceprt from the end of his article, which he admits, more than once, that he's "guessing":

    1) It’s not the end of the world.
What I mean is the content farms are hit, but they are still getting tons of traffic from Google. So it’s not the end of the world for them and many other webmasters.

    2) Content duplication is still okay.
I say so because Bigresource.com is relatively unaffected by the new algorithm, suggesting that content uniqueness is still not a big deal.

But do note that Google evaluates duplicated content based on the overall webpage. This means if you put 30 paragraphs of duplicated contents, taken from all over the net, as what bigresource.com does, you’ve got unique content! I believe this is still the case under this new algorithm, as evident in the studies above.

    3) Backlinks are still more important
From the studies above, you can see that Ezinearticles and Squidoo are less hit by the new algorithm. What could be the reason?

Is it because they have better contents? I don’t think so.

What I do know is most marketers, when publishing contents in article directories and social publishing platforms, will only build backlinks to selected sites. In the case of article directories, most marketers will only build backlinks to their articles in Ezinearticles. In the case of social platforms, they will only build backlinks to their Squidoo Lenses.

What that means is these two sites not only have a high site authority, but also have lots of backlinks to lots of their internal pages, as compared to other sites that have equally high site authority but relatively less backlinks to their internal pages.
Could that be the reason why these sites are less hit? Well, that’s my guess. What’s yours?
It seems to me that if you offer valuable content, you're still going to come out on top.

I believe the new algorithm just went live in the U.S. on Friday last week and is still to reach the UK. I've written a blog post about this change today if anyone wants to know more.

    Great thread, buzzing topic.

Just like someone above said, one of the main reasons this was triggered was because republished content was ranking better than original pieces.

Additionally, as someone else pointed out, content that is spread out among many article sites doesn't deserve to be ranked!

I've always felt like.. "why would I write an article, and then go repost the article 20 times on various different sites, to improve my rankings?"

I'd rather write the article once, go out in the blogosphere and get it noticed, and have bloggers start linking to it.

Ultimately, I think we all know exactly what is happening! Some people aren't effected at all, and others, got torched.

It's hard to imagine not getting punished when we're sitting here playing a game that's ultimately ran by Google. I think the best SEO is honesty and a bit of elbow grease. YES, you're going to have to build links yourself.

YES you're going to have to go out there and get people knowing about your site. The strategies to do that effectively just take longer and are a bit more difficult than traditional low quality ways of ranking that are really not working anymore as a result of these changes.

We'll all just have to adapt.

I am happy with these changes for it has effected my sites but in a positive way. For one site alone went from 100 visitors a day to around 200 a day in just a few short days. So yes I was effected but I was hit with a big round of applause from google saying keep up the good work.

I am also very limited as to where I post my duplicate content for plagerizers tend to enjoy using my articles as their own. So typically I will only post to one other site and that is eza with the content from my blog. This is to help deter the thieves out there and make sure that I include a link to the original article on my site along with a link to my main page as well.

I don't know. I haven't seen any movement in any of my sites. And I have some pretty old, crappy sites that have pretty below-average content.

I have suspected that most people that got hit really hard were getting a significant amount of traffic from Article Marketing. So they were more indirectly effected from the Google changes.

For all the people that have talked about the drop, most talk about how much their TOTAL visitors dropped. I haven't seen any people actually isolate the Google SERP traffic and that effect. Because that would be the right thing to look at.
