How to SECURE Videos?

I have a course I teach through videos.
But I want to make sure no one can easily steal those videos or download them. Surely someone can Screen capture, but aside from that I want maximum protection.

Meaning I don't want anyone to be able to find my video file through "source view", or be able to embed my script. Mainly cause it uses up my bandwidth too!

Where/How do you host videos with maximum protection?

Firstly you will want to host your videos on a third party service like Amazon S3 so your users get the best performance and speed. To secure the files you would then use a script like S3FlowShield if you are using Wordpress, if you are not using Wordpress then you will need to do some php to secure those file download locations.

I am using Sflowshield right now. They offer good protection, But I am not happy with their players...After you load the video fully...if you want to repeat a part from the middle, you can't! It has to load all over again from the very beginning....unless there is a way around this???

You would be best to send Wilson (the creator of S3flowshield) an email and ask him what he suggests for your situation. He knows a lot about all this S3 stuff and protecting your content so he would be the best person to ask. I know he will have a solution for you.

This is due to increased security by the player, because if you stream a video, the player normally saves that data in a temp folder in the application data folder located in my documents which will allow you to skip to previously loaded parts and this file only gets deleted if you clear your browsing data or if you close the player. This makes it easier for someone to just stream the video and once completed can be copied out, rename it to a .flv and then you are a golden pirate Thats why I believe that this particular player deletes the data as its streamed for increased security.

You can use a player like easy video player. This will allow you to actually upload directly to your s3 account and gives you automatic embed codes.

You can then use something like this for some extra confusion for those who may be looking under the hood.

It is on my to do list to mix these two - just have not arrived yet, but see no reason for it not to work.

And you may not even need EVP.

All of the solutions that I have seen so far recommended provide protection of the links to the resource, but nothing to prevent users from screen recording the video as it played. For that you can add protection to the page displaying the video by using Copysafe Web Protection.

Copysafe Web provides an easy to use and economical solution that can be used in all popular Windows browsers, but if you want absolutely unexploitable protection for web media you can try the ArtistScope Site Protection System (ASPS). ASPS is most secure because it uses a custom web browser specially designed to protect web media instead of expose it. The ASPS site filter can be applied to any web site on Apache and Windows servers, including Wordpress, Joomla and Drupal portal solutions.
