Wordpress and Licensing

We were considering building a phpLD plugin for wordpress, but there is some concern based on some previous things I have read that developers may have licencing issues if they try to charge for plugins. For example there is the issue that all themes are supposed to be GPL. Would I risk someone telling me my plugin would be gpl and that I can't charge for it?

    There is no rule against charging for a GPL product, if I recall correctly. The challenge would be that anyone else could also charge for it, or just give it away. Or change it in any way they liked.
