So I know many e-commerce stores let you opt-in to their flashy newsletter when you make a purchase with them.

But I was curious how many marketers are doing this? I've seen many marketers give away something for free to build a list, but is anyone actively building a list when someone purchases their product?

If you are building your list when someone makes a purchase, are you doing so automatically? I know with e-junkie you can integrate with Aweber to automatically add them to your list. Does anyone do that or would it spell doom to try such a thing?

Yes, you should always put your buyers on your list. These people who've bought from you are the most high quality people you can have on your list. If you use Aweber, you can easily integrate with Paypal so that whenever someone pays you on Paypal, they get added to your Aweber list.

And they still have to confirm the subscriptions if I understand the Aweber rules correctly, right?

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

Yes, they still have to confirm. What I do is put a little message on the download page telling them to go check their inbox to confirm so I can send them free product updates and other information they will find useful. I get 90%+ to confirm when I do that vs. about 75% when not alerting them to go check their inbox.
