Propagation?

INTERNET MARKETING

I set up a new website (ww.bbqribsonthegrill.com) and it keeps going away shortly after I update it - So I chat with the host company and they say the reason I am getting a 404 error page is propagation.

Has anyone else ran into this problem? Is it common? I am so confused...lol

It's normal. It can take up to 72 hours to propagate.

It depends how long ago you registered or transferred the domain. I just checked your website and it seemed to be working fine for me.

Usually in max 2 hours site should be visible

That 72 hours is a relic from past 10 years when things were much slower. Domain sellers and host keeps it just in case.

I know, I still hear that figure tossed around but most of mine are instant these days. I guess the order in which you do things can also help. Have your hosting setup first so you know the DNS settings you need to enter when you purchase the domain.

When I did my magic site at Tripod it was a few hours but this one is at hostgator and the domain was via namecheap - it took about 24 hours...I have been logging okay so far now- knock on wood!

Actually the 72 hours still holds true. NOT "all" DNS servers update every 2 hours. So it's not a relic from the past. It depends on if it is a new domain or a MOVED domain and what ISP you use.

Depends on TTL settings on your host, registrar and ISP.
