Choosing To Be Paid By Amazon gift certificate/card

Some of you may know that Amazon allows you not only get paid via check or bank deposit but also in the way of a gift certificates.

I have 1 questions regarding this"

1. Do they send you the certificate by post or is it just some digital credit they give you?

2. If we choose this option does that mean we don't have to pay tax since we are not being paid money?

Only reason I ask is because non-us affiliates (well Australians I know for sure cant) must be paid via check or gift card and the check has a $15 fee which kinda sucks..

  • that's odd, the UK side of the company pays by direct debit and you only need to earn £25

As for the gift card, i'm almost certain it would be a digital card!
  • Ah lucky you, must be because the UK have a dedicated amazon site unlike Australia.

Do you know the answer about the tax question?
  • not for certain but i'm guessing because it's a gift card it wont be classed as taxable income and will have been dealt with by amazon. just drop them an email, they usually respond within 24 hours.

  • I don't know Australia's rules, but I would guess that it's still taxable. I know that I've heard stories about the people who win big trips and cars on game shows being shocked by the tax bill.

  • I live in the netherlands, If I would ask for a check and pay the $15 every time.. I assume I would just receive a check which I can cash in for euro's(€)?

  • There's no $15 charge for international payments by "check".

    From Amazon.com:
"If your billing address is outside the United States, and direct deposit is, therefore, unavailable to you, we will waive the $15 fee."

    • ooh didnt see that part, thanks a lot
  • Oh haha I totally missed that one! thnx. That very good news, but I still have the same question: Do I receive a check in Euro's or Dollars? And if in dollars, can I just go to the bank to convert in into Euro's?
  • If it's from Amazon.com it will be in US Dollars (once your balance hits USD$100 for that period). Not sure how your bank will handle it, but here in Australia most banks will convert it and make you wait 6 weeks for it to clear.
