Want To Sell Online? Read This Article....

So I'm killing time at the local Borders (which speaking of killing is just dying a slow death but I digress....) before dinner yesterday and I see this great article by Jason Fried called "How I Got Good At Making Money".

It's a good 10-15 minute read but....Wow! Great GREAT stuff. It speaks volumes to us IM'ers especially those of you who are brand new and trying to make sense of what or how to sell online.

Pay particular attention to His #6 Point about Practicing....which is actually one of the first ways I ever got my feet wet with online selling. Here's a great excerpt of it:

So here's a great way to practice making money:Buy and sell the same thing over and over on Craigslist or eBay. Seriously.

Go buy something on Craigslist or eBay. Find something that's a bit of a commodity, so you know there's always plenty of supply and demand. An iPod is a good test. Buy it, and then immediately resell it. Then buy it again. Each time, try selling it for more than you paid for it. See how far you can push it. See how much profit you can make off 10 transactions.

Start tweaking the headline. Then start fiddling with the product description. Vary the photographs....Try every variation you can think of....

One of the best articles that condenses important concepts such as testing and tweaking as well as the required selling mindset...no matter what you're selling!

Here's the online version of the article - How I Got Good At Making Money

If you've read it....I'd love to hear your thoughts on it....

That was a great article, and he made some valid points about practicing. Internet Marketing is one of the few businesses that seems to be filled with people that want to be successful right away, and that in itself is amazing when you think about it. No one shows up at a hospital and announces that they want to be a brain surgeon, even though they have no medical training or experience.

One of the other points that he mentioned in his article was this:

"Understanding what people really want to know—and how that differs from what you want to tell them—is a fundamental tenet of sales. And you can't get good at making money unless you get good at selling."

How many sales letters have we seen that missed the mark on that one?

    Will

I was telling my cousin about this article who got a kick out of #6 as he makes about $2,000-$3,000 on the side just selling product on ebay while using costco and overstock to drop ship his inventory while he profits on the spread....More than one way to skin a cat!

Have this idea before but I never got around to actually doing it. I'm glad that someone has done it and it worked. It is encouraging to read posts like this. Thanks
