An example of a well put together amazon product site?

Hi, I'd love to see some examples of what you consider to be a good Amazon, product review site.

I'm planning on setting up a few sites, some are for individual products, and some are product niches.

I've been doing my homework on here, and the key seems to be, a very good review, up to 1000 words, video, pics, and stay away from amazon widgets.

I'm a web designer, so, I've no problem making the site look well... I just need to know what sort of page layout, content, converts best.

If I'm promoting say, 20 products, do I lay them all out on the front page, in a grid, pics, with a brief description, and then a link button to my review and link button to amazon review?

Or just list the top 3, 5? and a link to all products?

Ideally, if I could see links to tried and tested sites, that would be best.

Cheers.

I choose to run my Amazon review sites as a blog - with reviews, articles and blog posts mixed in together. I know others use a Store format with a grid homepage like you are suggesting.

I agree that longer reviews with lots of value, useful info, videos and images convert way better than short descriptions, or regurgitated Amazon info via robot plugins.

I built my own theme so you're welcome to check out my showcase site that demonstrates how I lay out my reviews. You can see it here: Penthesilea Showcase

      Hi Mrs. S,

What plugin are you using to get the Jillian Michaels pop-up window?

      Thanks.

I agree with Claire. Build them out like a blog and do a post around one particular product. You could also do something like deals of the week and show a couple of products that are great deals.

My strategy that works very good and gives me like 5%(visitors that click through my links and buy the product) is this:

I make like 5 review articles, I put a photo of the product and I also say the negative parts of the product.( ok, I don't do this, my writers does).

I use a very clear theme, or the review theme that it's also sold here on warrior forum and it seems that gives the same conversions.

I choose products that costs over 100$ and works very good.

  • Reviews between 1000-2000 words. Some have videos now. One has a fun break-ability test because I own it (just something I'm trying).

Playing around with the whole scroll over the links on your site and then a little product box appears. Called a Preview Product link I think.

Mainly a blog format, mixed with guides, reports and how-to's. They are supportive pages that link to some of my review pages. They are there incase people actually feel like they want to know more or find interesting things. Most don't, but it's there to help, and also to help me with SEO.

I don't limit myself to price ranges, and I usually go for things I either enjoy, or I've used in the past. If I'm completely new to it, I ask family and friends to see if they have a product or a similar brand - Just to get a feel for it.

Ideally your visitors will get to your review pages directly from somewhere such as the search engines. So rather than display them all on the main page, categorize them by brands or something.. you know, just incase the visitor happens to come via the main page. Add a search bar, and also add a link to your top 5-10 products either in the top navigation bar, or in the side bar.

Either that, or do a short side list that ranks your top 5 in order linking to those reviews.

A lot more ideas, just have fun with it.

The very best and highest converting A stores, especially affilate ones, are mainly *blog style* there are a few that have just an estore look, but they tend to loose buyers interest as you might as well be on Amazon buying...

So a blog built out around the *exact niche* with some *nique* content and a few plugins/widgets works best and seems to convert well too!

    Hope that helps!

I use two different systems and the two of them work for me:

          SYSTEM 1.

          - I use WP and create two types of content pages: informative articles and products review.
          - Each review post is about one single product (I do not compare them to similar products).
          - I write or re-write the content so that it looks original. Never use Amazon descriptions with out rewriting them and adding fresh content.
          - I use "star" ratings
          - Sometimes I also add video
          - I do not place ad-senses on my sites.

          SYSTEM 2.

          - I create a site comparing 2 or 3 highly priced products in what is my money page and add additional articles about the topic (those do not contain affiliate links).
          - I usually describe the process I have follow to make the review (e.g. extensive research, testing the products... whatever) to build trust.
          - I talk about the good and bad things of all the products and end up with a conclusion recommending one of them.
          - I like to use a comparison table to summarize the reviews.
          - I place links to all the products I compare but try to convince the reader to buy one of them. I kind of try to decide for them.
          - I do not place adsenses.

About the design: Always clean, professional, trustworthy design.
