Critique This Strategy

I am putting together my strategy to attack and ultimately dominate a fairly large, high competition niche.

What tools and processes do you folks use successfully to research domain names your looking at purchasing?

How important is an aged domain really?

I am looking at buying one aged domain to use for my primary authority site. This site will ultimately be a very large authority site that offers premium memberships along with affiliate products via an online store. The premium members will gain access to a web app that will provide tremendous assistance for a specific need the niche has and discounts on items sold via the store.

I am also looking at purchasing a number (5-10) of other related aged domains to setup as associated niche authority sites to serve both as advertising monetized sites on their own and as feeder sites for the main authority site.

The main site would have all of the content on each feeder site... but the content would be formatted differently and spun for the feeder site, not done via software or automated but basically re-written to make it different. Also, each feeder site will deal with one specific sub-niche but reference related topics.... references in content body being textual links to the main site.

My plan would be to work over time to get all the feeder sites ranked for long tail keywords, while also building traffic for the main site. This is not a short term strategy, I am content if it takes a year or two.

Any tips, mistakes to avoid or info at all is appreciated.

    • Just be sure that the aged domains still are indexed well for your keywords. Also be prepared to put content out there on a consistent basis. Do you have a small army of outsourced bloggers and article writers to keep your sites high on google's lists?

Be careful spending all this money creating a network of sites if you have no plan to follow through and create content consistently for them.
