Which is better: Safelist & Traffic Exchanges

I was wondering how safelist differ from traffic exchanges. The general consensus about TEs is that they are a big waste of time. After looking at a few safelist, I don't see how this is much different from a TE because they both have links that need to be clicked while a timer counts down. Safelist seem to escape the bad rap TEs have been subject to. Why the distinction?

I guess it depends where you IM entry point is - not everybody will discover this forum here on their first online days...

I read in an ebook TE could be used for traffic related optins or to buy cheap traffic via points...

The Guru on TE is supposedly Jon Ohlson - he even published a book on TE called "Hits, Clicks and Misses": The Traffic Exchange (look it up on Amazon)

I'm not really a fan of either to be honest. The best traffic is Search traffic and I would focus on researching some great back link building course because this will bring you the instant traffic you are looking for and as you continue to develop your SEO skills you will easily be able to rank 1 on some highly popular keywords and by doing this you can gather more traffic than an entire traffic exchange server as a whole.

    Cheers

I agree with Jake on this. Good targeted organic traffic is the best.

  • I personally think they are basically the same except a safelist has more credibility.

I am not sure safelist has escaped the bad rep entirely. Part of the reason it migh tlook that way is because the idea is so old school.

Many of the safelist repository sites, will also sell you, at an extra charge, a special mailbox that all your safelist emails will go to, so that you never have to see them.

And will also automatically delete the emails other people are sending you.

An interesting business model for sure.

Wow. I wasn't aware of this. Kinda defeats the purpose of the safelist. If they are not clicking the links in their email, I wonder how they're obtaining credits so they can send out their own emails to the list?

I don't think every safelist follows that model, some of them you can just buy a big enough account so that you get to send emails no matter what.

I suspect that success with these models kind of depends on what you are selling and how hypey your sales pages are. These ideas have been around a long time on the internet. And are often aimed at folks who are just starting out. Not always, but a lot of the time.

Using safelists you can usually get a conversion rate at around 5% with traffic exchanges it is much lower.

I use safelists for listbuilding and can get anything up to 15 leads perday from them. The main thing is not to get boged down in them only some work that have active clickers the rest are useless

use traffic hoopla to find a list of the best ones its updated every week

I agree fully. I've tracked both extensively in the past and Traffic Exchange conversions, even for people who are experts with them, are much lower.

Safelists: Higher conversions. Make sure you use them for list building primarily (which you should be doing on ALL offers anyway) and make sure your offers match the target market (newbies to IM).

I note the post above about getting gazillions of emails back from Safelists. What that tells me is that the poster didn't invest in a resource (there's a good one for only $9) that explained how to completely overcome that problem, through filtering. I never see an email I don't choose to see.

Im not really knowledgeable about safelists but I once joined in a safelist network and Im really annoyed with the frequent emails coming. There are hordes of them! Traffic exchanges on the other hand are more hands on because people only sees your site after you log in. Its like seeing a series of commercials in one go.

    Hi Adrianne,

I have great success with Safelists as I've been using them for over 5 years.

As has already been said the key thing is to only join the top sites, and the traffic hoopla is a great guide. Also you need to filter all of the messages in gmail or you will beecome overwhelmed.

You need to be promoting the correct things, and should be using the traffic to build your own list. To do this you need to do the dull things of tracking and testing different things.

Hope this helps, and if you need any help / advice get in touch

People that say safe-lists and traffic exchanges are useless fall into 2 groups

1.Those that know it is a great place to get newbies on your list and
    2. People who know nothing and are only spreading rumors started by people in the first group

Also a lot of people make the mistake of trying to sell on traffic exchanges and to people on safe lists. People on TE and SL are there for one thing free traffic. Offer them a course on seo, traffic getting etc and add them to your list. Newbies end up spending money as soon as they make up their mind IM is for them, 95% of the people you get from a safe list or TE might never buy something from you, but if you do not use these methods you are missing out on the 5% that do buy.

If you're getting safelist emails mixed in with your normal emails it means you haven't set up properly to use safelists. You should never see these advertising messages in your daily (normal) inbox.

Hop through to my blog where I have several posts that help people setup correctly, and how to go on to get very effective results.
