There Should be a "Thanks" Button For Pvt Messages?

Hi Guys,

Just was thinking we often send a private message and in response get a detailed answer, so it would be far better if we can explicitly say thanks by Pressing "THANKS" button available in private messages section...

I personally think it will make users even more responsive to reply back private messages.

Just a Suggestion...What do you Guys Think?

Regards
Fahad

    How is that?

    It seems kind of pointless........

    Fahad,

I have certainly received private messages that have had me looking for a thank you button, but we do still have words.

    Cheers,

The reason we have a thanks button is so that you can express appreciation to the community, and members of the community can receive some form of credit for their contributions.

Conversations that take place via PM may benefit you, but they do not benefit the community - because only you can read your PMs.

So the thanks button is not appropriate. A person who only converses via PM should have and give zero thanks, because no conversation over PM is of direct benefit to the community.

I was thinking otherwise but this makes a lot of sense. Although sometimes I will give a detailed PM reply and feel like I want more under my thanks count.

      • I don't think a THANKS button is necessary. Why? The person asked you for information, and you provide it to them. It is now UP TO THEM to reply back with a THANKS!

I am so glad that you brought this up, because I've helped out numerous people with free ebooks, links, information, and they don't even say, THANKS!

Kind of the reason why I don't want to go out of my way to give people what they've asked for anymore.

It's sad though, because I really like to help people and will go above and beyond what people want or expect.

Like I said, when you provide people with information and then they don't reply back with 'THANKS'! Then I'm not so eager to continue to help others!

Just my 2 cents, for what it's worth!

Just shoot a nice message back showing your appreciate. This will make most helpers more than happy.

I don't really see much point in this, to be honest.

One of the purposes of the "Thanks" button is to cut down on the number of separate, well-meaning, but frankly empty posts people would otherwise be making simply to say "thanks for posting this".

With the number of members and level of activity on this forum, such posts would quickly become overwhelming in number if not for the "Thanks" button.

But a private mesage is only between you and the other person. To express your thanks, just reply to them directly. You're not cluttering the forum up that way, and since your correspondence was private to begin with, no-one else but the other person stands to witness your expression of gratitude, anyway. :p
