So How Do You REALLY, really make money online?

One of the places that I think a lot of people new to IM get stuck is that they come in looking to "make money online" (I did). I know that usually the first thing they hear when they come to this forum asking how to make money online here is to build a business. I think that's excellent advice, and to that end, here are some successful business models that already work online. There are a zillion and one METHODS out there for making money, but only a few business models that are really lucrative. So why not keep it simple? If someone is making a lot of money online, it's most likely through one of the following six approaches. Please feel free to add your own if I missed any:

(Note: There are lots of individual "How To" posts on each of these topics and related ones like traffic generation right here on this forum, written by folks much more knowledgeable than myself, so anyone reading this and looking for more info on any of these topics should use the search function. Or, check out this excellent thread of resources posted by fellow Warrior Ebbi: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...wbie-read.html)

1. Create and sell your own products (rich jerk, double your dating, mass control, many warriors, online software products, membership sites)

2. Sell someone else's products as an affiliate (Many bloggers, many "IM guru" lists, product review sites)

3. Create a hugely trafficked website and sell advertising space (Google, Facebook, many blogs and forums, google adsense)

4. Sell your services (writing, marketing, brokering, web design)

5. "Flipping" (domain names, websites, blogs)

6. Sell physical goods (Ebay - I'm not very knowledgeable about this one, so I only included ebay as an example)

One benefit of approaching things from the "business model" perspective is that it helps to cut down on the information overload that people new to IM tend go through. For example, if you're considering buying a product for your business, you can ask yourself "does this product fit into my existing business model?", and make a decision about whether to purchase, rather than frantically jumping from product to product or method to method in the hopes that one of them will be your big break.

Hope this helps!

I think you have half the picture there. The other half is this:

People find a METHOD, and a MODEL, but they don't have a PLATFORM.

Platform building is such a huge part of succeeding online but almost no newcomers ever put ANY thought into it.

    Two examples:

    1. Personality platform: Someone unknown could come along and put together the best IM product ever and couple it with the best business model. Something better than Filsaime, Brunson, Kern, or any of the huge gurus have done. But it won't sell. Why? Because those guys have built a platform based on who they are. Their customers are not buying products, they're buying personalities. Robert Kiyosaki of "rich dad" fame is a great example of someone who has mastered this.

Keep in mind, I'm not saying here that a newbie can't do a huge launch and achieve guru status. I'm saying that you must FIRST build an online persona and a following, then you can go big-time. Too many people come to IM looking for "get rich quick" and there is none - they just hear about the million-dollar launches but never hear that the guru worked up to it for 2, 3, 4 years first.

    2. Thought-leader platform: I am currently working on something huge. I worked with a top platform-building expert to create it. It is so much bigger and more profitable than the sales niche I've been in for almost 6 years and it's completely different. It's based on looking at business problems in a new way and redefining them into profitable solutions (yeah, vague, but I don't want to give it away!). In other words, newbies can have a METHOD and a MODEL but there's no PLATFORM in terms of what they're standing on - why their ideas are better than someone else's.

So, don't forget platform building. It's not my niche but check out Larina Kase or Vickie Sullivan, two top experts in that realm.

Yeah, it sounds like you're describing "branding", no?

I hadn't really thought about that for someone starting out, but definitely important. Thanks for adding that.

so much depends on traffic so spend time on SEO and writing content that is valuable but do the research first and get into a good field which interests you cos you need to write a lot. When all is going well add pages for a high searched keyword and watch your rankings on Google.

When you have traffic (thousands of visitors) you can start to sell so select affiliate products or create your own. Content gives you traffic and credibility.

I have been doing this for TEN years and have got to a point which is finally making me good money but it is a necessary to focus and keep going and to be willing to go with what works and forget what doesnt so test a lot...

          Good luck money seekers....

If so, ignore the troll. If not, ignore the troll anyway.

    1. learn SEO(if you dont know, google about it), you need to read and read and reread then learn tons of backlinking skill, trust me, i have rank top position for competitive keyword and it is well worth it,

    2. PPC (pay for google adword to get traffic then try sell affiliate product)
a lot of people is earning big money using PPC skill, but again, you need to learn from the pro, and trust me, i have seen people earning USD600,000 in one month just by doing this

advantage: traffic coming in straight away
    disadvantage: risk of losing money

    3. write ebook and sell it
Well, again, you need tons of experience, try learn from the pro

advantage: can earn quite a lot if you know how
    disadvantage: a lot of work

My target is #2 + #3. I have built a forum that has a targeted nitch. Then I put ebay and amazon affiate ads on it. And then I rent forum sections out to advertisers.

My wife targets ebay sales. She picks stuff up a garage sales then sells it on Ebay.

I think the question is, how do you really, really, REALLY make money online? lol.

Seriously though. The main thing is focus. Once you have some knowledge under your belt, you have to focus your thoughts and energy on a single project, rather than working on 12 projects at once and getting frustrated when nothing pans out like you hope. Work on one thing, make it profitable, and then you can just tweak and split test to increase profitability. Then, move onto another niche/product/promotion, or whatever.

    Nice post
