Why Did You Start With IM? I Want 5 Reasons...

Hi Warriors!

I'm curious to find out why most people start out with Internet Marketing. Of course, it's all about making money and to build a business online, but what is the REAL reasons behind all that?

My guess is that a lot of people get dragged into the Internet Marketing world because they think it's easy to earn some quick money online...Thanks to all the crappy products out there promising millions with the click of a button...However, that's NOT how it is...But when you're first dragged into this business, what keeps you going?

5 Reasons, please

My reasons are:
  1. I Want To Create Something That Reflects Me, My Values And What I Stand For
  2. I Want Freedom
  3. I Want To Be My Own Boss
  4. I Want To Prove To Myself That I Can Do This
  5. I Want To Live Out My Dream, And I Think IM Can Help Me With That
What Reasons Do YOU Have? I Really Want To Know, So Hit The Reply Button!!!

What a great question to help refocus and motivate! I'm new at this, but these are my 5 reasons:

    1. Flexibility to work from home and start a family.
    2. Autonomy of setting my own goals and accomplishing them.
    3. Ability to work from anywhere in the world.
    4. Enjoyment of using my talents to make a living.
    5. Ability to put more of my energy into my family instead of being drained from my traditional full-time job.

Can't wait to read other responses. Thanks for the thought provoking question!

    For me it was

    1. Wanted to make some extra cash
    2. Thought I could add some value
    3. Like building things from scratch
    4. Have a brain with too many ideas and wanted to bring some to reality, the web / internet marketing makes that possible
    5. Wanted to be able to work anywhere in the world

Have succeeded on all counts so far, and continuing to try to do the same 5 things.

    Thanks for an interesting topic

    Chris

    My 5 reasons:

I wanted to be a stay at home parent. Didn't want anyone else raising my 5 beautiful children, who in themselves are 5 great reasons I started.

I HATE having a boss. Especially one that doesn't share the passion I do for life and living it. Or having to dumb down myself to keep a job I really didn't want to begin with.

Freedom. If my children are sick, I'm just not in the right mind frame or just want to run away for a bit, IM allows me to still bring in an income.

The ability to quite literally print my own money. Things are tight, bust my ass just a little more and get the cash I need. Can't do that with a regular job.

Being able to make an income doing something I love to do and actually want to do, writing.

I have many more reasons, but I think I.M is right for different people for different reasons, and why someone does it won't be the same reason you'll do it.

    Best wishes,
    Sylvia

You're absolutely right. I don't think there's some other place you can start out with literally nothing and be as successful as you can online. That said, if you're serious about your online business, you need to invest in it. It will cost money to earn money online as well.

To make money without having to go out to work. I want to be at home when my kids come home from school each day.

Plus I want to work for myself rather than for some one else - did that for 24 years and had a good career but ultimately a shedload of stress.

You can have any number of "reasons" for starting an IM business, but
I believe what matters even more is what PURPOSE people have in
running one. 'Purpose' is a stronger word, with deeper meaning.

And, imho, you don't *need* 5, or even 2 - just ONE strong purpose will
do, one you are passionate and committed to. It will help overcome hurdles
along your path (and there WILL be many over the years).

Mine is to fund heart surgery for under-privileged kids.

That's the purpose behind my Internet infopreneur business.

It has kept me excited, enthused and energetic about what I do in it
    for the past 15 years.

    All success

You're absolutely right Dr. Mani (I just thought I should write 5 reasons, because I've heard that posts like that will be opened by more people! hehe) But I totally agree. You need to be passionate and focused on WHY you're in this business and always work hard to reach new heights. Lift yourself up and go get what you want.

    Dr. Mani,
As always an excellent post. And I agree, you don't need 5 reasons all you need is one single reason, and it has to be something that excites you, makes you passionate and fired up inside, and that will be all the drive you ever need to make it in internet marketing, or for that matter anything you put your heart to. Thank you for your excellent contribution to the discussion.

I think you got it wrong. The OP didn't ask why we got started in the IM niche, he asked why we were into internet marketing. You don't need to be promoting MMO products to be working in IM. I myself started with 2 blogs on health topics for example.

Your reasons for starting IM are quite great but i want to add that i started IM because:

      a. I have a lot to offer and really desire an easier platform to reach more people.

      b. I didn't want any boss to be sniffing down my neck unnecessarily.

      c. I want to be able to earn good income while still having the free time to live my life the way i want.

      d. I like challenges and IM is enough challenge to any newbie(It was for me then) but i thank God that i am enjoying my life as an IM.

        1. I like building something and being creative, but am not keen about working with my hands or customer service (although my offline business involves in-person customer service). Websites are built and require planning, creativity and purpose. I have a lot of fun thinking about my sites.
        2. I don't like jobs involving interruptions. I like being on my own and focussing on building something. IM is the perfect vehicle for this type of work.
        3. Very low risk with huge potential for reward.
        4. Once my IM business is earning a full time income, I'd like to travel more without the usual 2 week "job" vacations.
        5. The potential to leverage effort and earn residual income appeals to me a great deal.
        6. I continue doing IM because it's fun. Even on slow or no sales days I just keep plugging along. If I didn't like it, I'd have quit long ago. Sure the money is important because I'd love to do this full time, but I get a much bigger thrill from a $30 commission or sale than a salary pay check. For some odd reason IM money is so gratifying.

Although I'm not big on in-person customer service, I really enjoy communicating with my website readers and subscribers. Initially my sites weren't built with a purpose to build a community, but I'm moving in that direction (slowly) and am liking it.

I fell into this business accidentally. I needed a website for my offline business and more importantly needed to learn SEO. As I researched building websites and doing SEO I stumbled on IM. My offline business website worked and works very well so I thought why not give IM a go. I have no regrets.

My main reason for doing this was freedom, everything else falls neatly into the umbrella of freedom.

    The freedom to help others.

The freedom to make as much as I want.

The freedom to work anywhere in the world as long as I had access to an internet connection (or to someone else that had one).

The freedom to choose the investments and insurance converage that I want.

The freedom to travel at a moment's notice.

The freedom to focus on personal development instead of focusing on just working to live.

Freedom from the corporate rat race is so sweet, that if I was to go back in time knowing what I know now, I would have worked 100x harder to have achieved it quicker.

It's amazing being able to wake up and do virtually anything you want and never having to miss another family event if you don't want to. Freedom is priceless.
