Help With Expired Domain Issue

Does anyone know how long GoDaddy holds a domain before it is listed for sale again?

I have someone who bought a website off me a while back but never accepted the domain transfer. She has now contacted me because the domain has expired. I can find it in my 'recover expired domain' section but they want almost $80 in recovery fees. It isn't available for anyone else to buy it so I'm wondering if there is a time period that they hold a domain in 'recovery' before they put it back up for sale.

Also, if my customer buys the domain back and puts her nameservers on it, will her website then show up assuming that she doesn't delete the files or addon domain from her hosting?

I had a similar problem a while back, depending on how much the transaction amount was and if it were an option i would just refund and move on.
In my case sold domain for $25 buyer also never accepted transfer, i got email from ripdaddy 3 months later, ended up costing me $65 to complete.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

I'm not going to refund, I sold this site months ago and the buyer never accepted the transfer. I always tell my buyers that they must accept the transfer or the domain will be lost when it expires. It is up to them to accept it.

If she wants to pay the recovery fee she can, but otherwise she can wait until it is up for sale again, just not sure how long that takes.

      Hey Sheryl

here is some info you find helpful

Most registrars allow a grace period that can be as short as one or two weeks or as long as a year for registrants to renew expired domain names. The actual grace period can be different for each individual registrar and domain name extension. That is, the grace period for a .com domain name might be different from the grace period for a .fr domain name, even at the same registrar.

After the registrar's grace period, most domain names have a redemption period. This period can last from two weeks to 30 days, and, during this time, the current registrant can renew the domain name by paying a redemption fee along with the domain name's renewal fee.

If the current registrant does not renew or redeem the domain name, it might be auctioned. When a domain name is released to a public auction, you can participate and possibly capture the domain name by placing a bid on it.

If the domain name is not renewed, redeemed, or purchased through an auction, it is returned to its registry. The registry determines when the domain name is released again for registration.

The problem is that, if you wait to expire and will be available again, someone might already watching it and could grab before you do.... Tell your customer the real story and he might pay for recovery...

Ok thanks, I will pass on this information to the customer and let her decide what to do.

I know I myself had a domain that I had for a few years and let expire, then a couple of months later I changed my mind and wished I had kept it. I looked on GoDaddy and it was available for sale so I grabbed it again. But I know what you're saying, it isn't guaranteed that it will be available for sale.

Never let a domain expire unless you are sure it is worthless because it might be worth something to somebody
