Check Out My Sig For Killer Information - And Look At This Link For My Ebook

Warriors,

I just got through looking through another thread. Within that thread, two different people call blatant attention to their signature files, even going so far as telling the OP (or whoever else is reading) to click on the link in ther sig!

Then there was a post in the same thread with a link to an ebook that the person had written.

Now, I am not one to rat people out, but I am just wondering if this is OK with everyone. Can I blatantly ask for people to click on my link in every article marketing thread I come across? Can I create links in my posts to my ebooks and "free" information?

AL

Allen, who was the person doing it? lol

If it was you, I'm sure you have already been reported

If it was a handful of other upstanding members, I'm sure it is fine

If it was someone new, they probably just need to be reminded of the rules

We can take them out back and kick the shit out of the later on today! lol

Allen, report the threads and move on.

No sense getting worked up over it.

Hopefully, others will see them and do the same.

As a side note to other warriors here...

When you are knocking about the forum, ruining your reputation by trying to get cheap clicks on your sig. and hawking your vaporware around... or casually "dropping" your e-book link against the rules...

Allow me to share with you a l'il story..

Earlier last week... I took a day off to tend to my fiancee who was a little sick and our baby girl who had a fever...

Upon my return to the online world....

I had 200+ e-mails staring me in the face...

Out of all the commercial mails and newsletters (there must have been 100+ mails that were commercial and newsletter)... out of all those, there was only ONE I was compelled to open...

That ONE mail out of 100+ was Allen Graves, because his reputation and honesty stopped me in my tracks.. and I thought to myself.. "I gotta see what Allen has to say today"

You could do much worse than listening to Allen's advice...

Just thought I'd share, because some people may see Allen's post as a mindless rant.. it's not.. it's straight talkin' at it's best

    Peace

    Jay

p.s. Now click on my sig

Hey I read it too lol...

I dunno personally how I feel about it. If its blatant self promo where it is a case of click this link when no one asked it's reported but when it is someone asking something that I have a product for I give them the info they need without revealing any "secrets" that are the main things my product is composed around.

I noticed this earlier from someone that had a few thousands posts... I was very surprised to see someone that had been around so long and had so many posts doing this.

Anyway, I reported it and hopefully others did too.

I've told people to click on the link in my sig a couple of times, but only links to WSO's or WF classified ads because those are links that the WF is making money from.

Sometimes a newbie will ask a question that is answered exactly by one of my products. Should I not tell them to take a look? See, as an example, I have recommended DLGuard many times because I like it, even though we are patiently *cough* *cough* waiting for Sam to finish the pro version. If Sam comes in and says "yes, my software does that, take a look", I have absolutely NO objection. If people just come in and blatantly hawk their wares all over the place, report them.

    Tom,

The problem is that people are directing others to buy their product, sign up for their list or become a member of their website. That has nothing to do with sharing information to help others make money with internet marketing - that's all about self promotion.

What happened to the good old days where people would simply respond with some kickass information that was genuinely intended to help everyone - rather than responding with a link to a place where someone can buy your information?

This is a forum, not a sales page.

Yes, that is true. If you remember my $100 in 24 hour post, I wrote that one up for free. I try to answer all the questions I see without promoting my stuff. If people ask about something of mine directly, I give a response and I guess that is the difference. I agree that the tenor of the WF has gotten very salesy of late, IMO.

This topic came up in the old forum roughly about a year ago (I'm not compelled to search for it at this time). I though that the mods of the forum at that time determined that pointing out your sig was OK as long as the link from your sig actually provided a solution to the topic being discussed.

I know for a fact that I've seen the sig link pointed out in an appropriate manner and I've also seen it pointed out purely as a promotional effort.

Since we are all moderators now, we should flag when inappropriate, but understand that sometimes it probably is the best answer.

One last thing, what if someone specifically asks for a product that would help them out? Pointing out your sig (if you do really provide the solution they are looking for) may be exactly what the OP was looking for!

Yeah, I think according to the old TOS it was fine as long as the link was relevant and genuinely helpful. I think you used to even be able to include affiliate links at one point, as long as you specified that it was an aff. link. Although, I could be mis-remembering that.

And there again it might not be what the OP was looking for.
So a PM would be much more appropriate.

        Hi,

I just copy/paste the exact question I am replying to into my sig link as the anchor text just before I answer the question.

Then, regardless of what they are asking, I point them via my 'one size fits all' sig link to my 'jack of all trades' IM site, where they are immediately hit with stuffed cookies, offers for 10000000 instant hits, shared unlimited hosting on my souped-up xbox hard-drive, unbelievable deals on high quality buyer traffic from my traffic exchanges, exit pop ups and kids gaming sites networks - and all of these deals are embellished with a barrage of multiple OTOs, upsells for high ticket coaching, forced autoresponder opt in and add to favourites, disabled back button, disabled 'X' button, unblockable pop-ups, unblockable unstoppable virtual assistants programmed to have tourette's and new windows with unblockable, unbearable Rick Astley.

        Is this frowned upon?

YES! But if you got rid of Rick Astley it would then be OK.

I don't know if it was Warrior Forum or another forum...but one time I was bored and reading through some "forum rules" ... and directing someone to click on the link in your signature file was actually against the forum rules.

    Funny.

    Tom,

I think it would be better to give a great answer to their question/solution to their problem in hopes of them thinking "What a great answer, this person knows his stuff... I will check out his link."

Rather than even giving a somewhat answer and saying "Check out my signature for more details."

If it is against the rules to start a buzz about an upcoming product, wouldn't one naturally suspect that it would be against the rules to pump one that's already for sale.

I agree with Leslie that a PM would be much more appropriate (in all cases).

    <thought bubble> did i just say that?! </thought bubble>

I also agree with MatthewD. What he said was exactly how I feel.

I too agree with the premise of matthewd's response. But, I do remember specifically one thread (maybe this is the exception to the rule, but I doubt it) where I thought it was perfectly legitimate. The reason I remember the thread is because it helped me out. I wasn't the OP and in fact, I didn't even have a response in the thread because I had nothing to add.

The Warrior (whom I shall not name) answered the OP's question completely. Then stated that if they would like to dig deeper into the subject, they could check their sig. This was a well-respected member here that always chips in to help when their specialty is discussed. That same member was even willing to help me with some issues on that topic via Skype without any payback whatsoever.

Now, IMHO, in this particular case there was zero harm done. Furthermore, it would have been ridiculous for that person to post everything they knew about this particular subject in their reply (it's a big complicated subject).

I have seen an increase in self-promotional sig references around lately that clearly do not belong. But, to make a blanket statement that all sig references are unacceptable I think is unfair.

Since we are all moderators here, we have to judge whether to report a post or not. For me, I will take into consideration who is making the sig reference and what contributions they make to the forum and if the sig reference is helpful or just someone trying to make a quick sale.

Lastly, I will say this: If you, Allen Graves, were to make a sig reference in one of your posts (based on the criteria I just mentioned), I would NOT report that post.

I think it's great when somebody shares good info with me. I learned a lot from people posting links to reports , signitures, etc.

      I don't understand what's wrong with that.

It sure beats buying a useless WSO which most of have done.
