#1 Reason I failed for a year in IM

I didn't stick to any one method for the long term. Instead I gave each method a few weeks to a month at most and started doubting that it would work.

I also bought so many products that I was struck with information overload and became overwhelmed with too many methods. Finally I have picked my mentor and am following the plan.

I am cutting out a lot of useless activities like TV, talking on phone for long periods, video games, etc. That is what I see as a common problems for newbies is giving in to good copywriting.

A new product comes out everyday. The successful IM'ers are focused and sticking to their plan and the newbies and failing marketers are too busy buying every product to ever get any real focused work done.

My advice create a new email and pick a trusted product. Lock yourself in a room with you and your computer for 90% of your free time and don't stop until you are profiting daily.

    That's a very good post. You definitely have to put the time in and you definitely have to focus.

    Too many people chase the 'silver bullet' or, more accurately, they just look for a system that doesn't require any work.

    The fact is, those systems just aren't there.

    Now, with some knowledge and experience you can get systems that almost run themsleves, particularly if you can integrate a level of outsourcing into the process, but it still takes the work to get up to that point.

    For instance, I have an ever growing product line, but each product takes work to set up (and knowledge to create each product to a high standard) - but my business grows with each new product, through repeat buyers, a larger email list etc.

    It does however take some time and dedication to get there.

    I agree that you must focus but it doesn't mean you can't buy products. Buy a good one and focus on it because it will make you money if you work at it. Reading won't do anything but doing will.

    When I say buying products I mean systems like Mass Money maker, Cb Predators. Using the training from one of these programs will not require you to buy another system. Now things like Keyword research tools, or backlinking software are investments.

    A person that has a complete system does not need to buy another and another because they only need to follow one.

      A very good post and a reminder to all that are still struggling to make money - you must focus on one thing!

      Pick whatever you like, but please understand that this is not a sprint. It will take time to make anything work, however the rewards are there if you keep at it.

      To OP - you have made the best choice there is. Keep on going and always nice to read such posts!

I have been diiging into a few courses and a pile of books not to mention forums like this and tons of websites and I am definitely in information overload! Things are beginning to make sense and my plan is changing. Your advise appreciated.

    Dont buy any "systems" or "money making products". I am in this forum for such a long time already, and also from emails i KNOW that a lot of people seem to think that they can get the skills/wisdom by buying some "system" because i get such questions ALL THE TIME!
    Unless its a tool, say, a keyword research software or something...dont buy into all that ***p!
    Rather, use your money and get into the war room if your REALLY think you need to spend some money...or better, get away from that thought that "spending money" is the first thing you need to do because this is the totally wrong approach.

    Especially in IM/Online marketing its amazing how almost everything is free (some pennies like hosting costs or domains aside)..the rest is WORK and a good plan.

    And yes, lazyness and distractions (computer games ) can be dangerous...

      Thanks for sharing James. I was in the same boat as you as I bounced around quite a bit as well. The funny thing is, I was able to make money from each business model that I started but I would eventually move on to the "next big thing".

      I like what Im doing now and while there isnt any immediate returns yet, I know that Im building my business for the long haul.

    Agreed.

    Focus > Action = Results!

    Then work out how much focus and action you had to put in to get results.

    Rinse and repeat or start from the beginning again.

    Main thing is to keep moving...

    That's a good finisher. This is what works.

    As it's been said before there are too many people looking for push button solutions. There are too many people who assume that very little time is put into IM.

      Very true BUT that's a big part of the marketing for certain products.

      Just yesterday I happened across a product/system that used "push button", "no work", and "easy" liberally throughout the sales presentation.

      Having some experience, its much easier to see through it but beginners might fall into the web.

    I think information overload is definitely a big issue for most newbies. One thing that used to distract me when i first started out was emails. So many new products hitting my inbox on a daily basis that I never really had any focus or direction.

    Just like you getting a mentor is the BEST thing I ever did

    And I so agree with webcore. There is no such thing as a push button solution and I think so many people getting hooked looking for the magic answer when really it all comes down to working hard and staying focused!!!

    Yes- most people do fail due to the unfocused-ness. In order to prevent this, it is a must to write out a plan, and stick with it until you succeed.

    I know it's hard, because I often jump around when I see something new, which is a bad habit :/

    I am a newbie too and I find it really difficult to stay focused, when you do not know what to do next... Just to differentiate between good stuff and hype/scam is not that easy... not only as information source but also regarding software/tools... BUT I am not buying a lot of things and rather try to find free information for my learning curve... or i do visit the War Room

    Good post and agreed! Sticking to "it" is what most all newbies miss. They just can't Stick to "it"! Impatience overwhelms them after just a few hours in most cases, but is it really their fault? I would say "No", simply because few can resist following through a good Ad copy unless they are seasoned marketers who have already been there, and done that. Bottom line, it's Time to Learn writing good Ad copy if you are a newbie!

    Yup!. That's it in a nutshell. What I have been going through for years now myself. I just read in a book last week the author talking to an x-football player who wanted to get into internet marketing. The man asked the football player how many plays were in the playbook? He answered "thousands". Ok. Its 4th down and goal with 10 seconds remaining in the game. How many plays can you do? One. That's it. So I am taking this advice and finally focusing on one thing. One plan. One niche. One business model until it succeeds and then I will move on to something else.

    Thanks for the great post. It reminds me of what I need to do on a daily basis.

    Great thread. Find something and stick to it. If it makes you money then continue to do it. This is how I wasn't making a lot of money in IM when I started as well. Stop jumping from method to method or product to product...you will never make money this way.

    Sit down and start doing something and you will eventually earn.

    As for newbies, they just don't know how and where to start and want to find some strategies which are proven to making easy money. But, there are so many quick and easy money making methods on internet and they are just dizzy and don't know which one is the suitable one. So, they try one by one for a period of time, as a result, they are distracting and can't focus on one. So, finding the one and focusing on it is what a newbie should do.

    I also suffered from information overload when i first started Internet Marketing, jumping method from method when i see no visible results in a few weeks time.

    Right now , I come to realize that the path to becoming a successful Internet Marketing is no easy feat.

    Good information, James.

    What's more to stress is , any product will do, just human problem that do not take the ACTION. What's more , even you see many products looks like rehashed or so on , but it still the same, it required the effort to work it on and profit.

    I guess I will follow the advice , cut the computer games , unwanted activities, and concentrate on building the profitable business. But for sure you must have some sports activity to keep body fit and mental strong too. hahahahaha ~ !

    Really, like what you've said, there are simply TOOOO many programs, ways, techniques for one to make money online, one just have to FOCUS.

    Too many people lost years with jumping from one method to another. If you want to be successful in IM, you need to focus your energy. Internet is just too big for trying everything.

      Great post james. Totally agree. I've been done with to much information overload. Had all sorts of systems/guides etc and It can be overwhelming. I find that you have to many ideas going through your mind and found it hard to concentrate and focus.
      I have had sucess at quite a few IM campaigns, sites etc but becuase of getting distracted by the relentless newsletter subscriptions and guides I loose my focus and move on to the next idea. I have now unsubscribed from every newsletter and going to concentrate on one thing at a time.

      Going to struggle to not be distacted by games as I have just bought Fifa 12 and rage on the Xbox

      Great post! I've also suffered from information overload, getting distracted, etc. I've started using the Getting Things Done (GTD) system, which has helped me a lot with productivity.

      I've also found that having a set aside time each week or so for reviewing new information helps me feel like I'm staying current without sacrificing focus or momentum.

      Thanks for sharing your experience. It definitely comes down to focus sooner or later.

      I remember making money here and there on the web and then I got pretty serious in Dec 08. I was writing up to 30 articles a day and that was the easy part. The hard part was submitting them after they were done.

      That was Brutal.

      But, guess what happened? Over $3000 the next month. I've never looked back. I don't write articles like that these days but it was a great learning experience.

    James - Brad here. Thanks for your honesty and willingness to lay it out for us. Your commentary really hits home. I have tried to stay focused and believe I am better than most - but your comment made me reassess.

    Getting focused - really focused is definitely critical. Your post was the last in a long line that said the same thing. Nothing happens until you focus - and stay committed.

    Your post must have been just at the right time. Really appreciate your long distance "help". Strange what goes around comes around.
