Wordpress Themes that Act Like a Website???

Hey Everyone,

I have been using Revolution themes for some time and I think they are really nice designs.

Just wondering what other sites you know of that have themes that act/look like website rather than the post-by-post themes.

Also, PM me if you do custom blog designs too:-)

Thanks,
Dale

    Hi Dalvia,

You can make any wordpress theme act like a website by using the static page feature in settings/reading. Create a blank page - usually "home" and nominate it as the static front page. You can then create and select another page, for example "latest updates" to be your blog page.

a lot of the iThemes.com act like a CMS.

(disclaimer: that's not an affiliate link, nor am I affiliated in anyway. It's just a good resource.)

Wordpress is just fantastic. I'm really getting into the way it works.

I've just managed to put together a decent niche directory site by messing about with the archive.php to change the way categories are displayed.

However I'm not posting a link to it here because every Wordpress site I've ever posted on the Warrior Forum gets spammed heavily, or even hacked!

Whilst we're on the topic of manipulating wordpress/themes, does anyone know of a way of effectively dealing with images?

I'm trying to line up three small images across a page but they seem to have a will of their own. Attempting to put text next to, or above the images screws up the layout even further.

Revolution Themes are great, but there are a lot of great magazine style themes out there in addition to those.

Take a look at ONE theme. It's pretty amazing!

WP Posts are not very good at layout... it is the one drawback about WP that makes me scratch my head... I'm fortunate that my wife is a CSS wizard and fixes anything.

PM me with your site, and I can take a look. It could be as simple as your width is not wide enough to accommodate all the images

There is a Gallery plugin, I think it is called NextGallery, that will help out a lot with this.

Matthew, you're right, width is part of the problem, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Roadies, will have a look at gallery plugins, that might be the answer.

    Cheers

You probably talk about "niche" themes...i do prefer blog-style themes since i use autoposter modules, and google likes to see "new" content/"blogs" coming in every day as opposed to static "niche sites".

I thought wordpress is great. I am using it for my own company's website as well as setting up for a client's website.

Have a look at one of my latest affiliate sites on WP

Nose Rings Shopping | Nose Piercing Information

and I'm using the Lifestyle theme:

Lifestyle WordPress Theme : Revolution Two

I especially like the featured article area where you can place images and make them roll - looks really cool!

SpicyRobby - that's a great looking blog/site. I had a look at the Revolution themes but couldn't get my head around the customisation required at the time. Might be time for another look. I've used a few different themes from ithemes and currently I'm using Thesis.

MarketerGuy, many thanks for the table info - I'll definitely try that.

I looked at the warcraft site, my site layouts are generally similar using wp, but as previously mentioned I just set a static front page and then create a blog page. I guess you get more control over the sidebars etc if you add another wp install.

    Cheers

I get your drift MarketerGuy, I'm trying to resist delving into css, php, hooks, mysql, et al, but the more that I do, the more I realise that this stuff is where the action is. Thanks for the info.

    Cheers
