Do You Use EZA to Find Content? Can I Ask You...

I'm trying to focus on article-writing for syndication...

So, if you use EzineArticles to find content, I'd like to ask you some questions with a view to improving the quality of my articles (and any other warriors reading this).

I want you to choose to publish MY articles...

- but -

What do YOU want from ME?

Here are some questions for starters...

(If I may, let's assume any articles are factually and grammatically correct!)

Is there an ideal word-count for your purposes?

How do you find articles on EZA? - search from homepage or drill into categories, just read or what?

How important is the 'teaser'?

How important is the Title?

What level of self-promotion is acceptable in the bio-box?

What else is there that 'just grabs you'?
Humor? A story? Author's qualifications?

What do you wish there was more of?

What do you wish there was less of?

Anything else you'd like to get off your chest? - on topic, obviously!

There have been quite a few threads recently lamenting the overall quality at EZA (and we have just seen some of the results of that).

Article-Marketers have been giving their 2 cents worth on other threads at WF.
I thought I'd get the view from the other side of the fence.

Supply and Demand...
Content Syndicators - tell us your demands and lets see if more writers/suppliers can meet them.

If it results in better quality articles, you'll have better content to publish!

Regards,
K

It varies by subject. I tend to favor articles that take 600-900 words to cover the topic well. For some topics (and writers), I'll go much longer.

It also depends on what I have in mind for the article. Will it be included in a blog post/article of my own? Added to a newsletter? Posted alone, with minimal commentary?

I used to be able to just drill into a category, and it sounds like I may be able to do that again someday, but for now there's an element of luck to it.

One thing in a good writer's favor is that if I like their stuff, I'll look for their stuff, by author name.

Very. Between that and the title, I'll decide if I want to invest the time to read your article. Tell me what it's about and remember, it's a teaser, so slip in a tidbit that arouses my curiosity.

    See above.

It's a judgment call. Like the judge once said about porn, I may not be able to define it, but I know it when I see it. Sorry if that's not much help...

All of the above, with the author's credentials being the least important as long as the article reads as if the writer knows spit from shinola. I also spot check facts and any citations. Blow that, and the article gets flushed without a second thought.

Authors writing for people rather than computer programs. A good article is a one-to-one communication between two people.

Keyword-loaded, formulaic drivel cobbled together to generate quantity of content over quality, in an effort to please an emotionless piece of software.

    Yes.

When I syndicate your article on one of my sites, there are two peoples' reputations at stake. You are not doing me a favor by writing your article. I am not doing you a favor by publishing it. That first article of yours that I take a chance on could be the start of a profitable business relationship.

Do those different types of intended use have word-counts imposed by technical/format issues or by your personal choice?

I'm not focused on word-count as a target. Just musing on the possibility of writing for those different uses.

      Thanks again,

Mostly by personal choice in my case.

For example, if I were going to post an article by itself or with minimal introduction, I tend to choose longer articles.

If I'm going to post a point/counterpoint type piece, I'd want both articles to be about the same length.

I have used very short pieces before. Mostly as fillers and add-ons for email-based content. Think about the anecdotes you find in Reader's Digest.
