Where do you host your videos?

I host all my sites at HostMonster. Great host for what I need, no complains at all.

I'm currently at a project where I will sell about 30 "how to" videos to my clients, and I would like to serve those from another host.

I've heard good things about AMAZON S3 for video or image hosting.

Can U recommend Amazon S3 or is there a better solution to free up your default hosting account?

Amazon seams to have a great value per GB of bandwidth transfer and only charge if you actually use it.

Any thoughts

G.

Right now I host on Youtube. One can even autoplay embedded video. But I am also looking for other sources too.

I looked at Amazon S3 a bit and they have several data storage centers, in the US, Europe and Asia (Maybe somewhere else).

You can choose where you wanna host your files. Same price.

I as well could see that you get one year FREE hosting with up to 2 GB transfer per month.

Is that correct? If yes then there is no reason NOT to try Amazon S3.

I personally do not do videos, but nearly every "big" product is now on S3. So, I'm guessing, and I'm pretty sure, that they're good..!

So when you have used up all the free trial periods for this and that, can anyone give me a ball-park figure of what it costs to host a single avarage quality 5 minute video and how much it costs each time someone watches it. Then I can get a handle on the costs involved.

The pricing on the site is really not too helpful.

      Definitely S3 for many reasons...

Here is another older thread that discussed other sources:

I've been researching membership sites, namely DigitalAccessPass and Wishlist. The same guy who runs DAP has an add-on, s3mediavault.com which claims there is a security flaw in Amazon S3.
Is this legit? Is there a security problem?

Last I knew, S3 has a major flaw. Apparently, you just need to know the particular subdomain (xxxxxx.s3.amazon.com or similar) and you can get all the files uploaded in that folder/subdomain. Heck, there are software programs out there that can rip such pages.

It's good to save bandwidth on your shared hosting account and also for load balancing issues; but as a post-sale product download, I'm not sure I'd go with it.

So what would you go with?

Is everybody else here talking about pre-sale? Or are they just not concerned with what you said above?

You can protect the directory/folders/buckets so the list of files cannot be read.

Also there are various Secure Streaming plugins such as CloudPlayerPro and S3FlowShield that make ripping video difficult (unless the client is using screen capture)

I was listening to Paul Colligan discussing his latest product launch on the Internet Marketing This Week Podcast recently. He mentioned his latest product launch hosted EVERY video on YouTube.

On any videos he did not wish to have publicly displayed in the YouTube searches he selected to have the videos unlisted. This allows still embedding it and giving people the links, but not having it show up on public searches for the video.

He made two points during his discussion.

    1. It is FREE.

    2. People tend to trust videos hosted on YouTube which "CAN" increase clicks.

If your videos are intended for sale, as you are indicating, this option goes out the window. In those cases he was recommending his own service, or Amazon if I remember the podcast properly.

Use Amazon S3. Also use Cloudfront via S3 if streaming videos to different parts of the world. Cloudfront streams the videos from different locations around the world to make a more friendly user experience. Another FREE program called CloudBERRY makes it easy to manage your AmzS3 as it can be a little confusing for some.
Use Easy Video Player to really manage your videos and track sales and most views, place opt-in forms on video etc...Hope this helps.

I assume you guys are all talking about hosting for paid videos and not for videos that you want out there for everyone to see? Otherwise, I'm not clear why you'd want to pay for S3 for hosting your video since you'll get less exposure than if it goes up on YouTube. Or am I missing something here (never done a video, but looking to get into it -- I do keep backups of my website and my files automatically on S3).

      yeah.

I was looking for the best solution for a members area, so not out in the open and good quality.

All my squeezepage stuff I have on YouTube as, with a bit of good VSEO, you can get a load of passing trade from YouTube searches.

I have gone with Amazon for now. Amazed at just how easy it is with the Firefox add-on, S3Fox.

Does anyone use Cloudfront with their S3 or just linking directly to the S3 Videos for playback?
