Maybe I'm just missing something here totally,

But I opened a hotmail account a couple months ago with the intent of using it for some crazy business idea i had dreamed up at the time, and promptly forgot about it (I think the weed wore off haha!). Anyways I opened it up tonight and surprise surprise, it's got over 20 spam mails.

How does a spammer find an address like this that had never been used, is filled with numbers etc... Do they run randomizers that much?? Or could we drum up a conspiracy theory where hotmail is auctioning off it's addresses to the "most successful spammers"?

[conspiracy theory idea inspired by sheen winning sheen] [post inspired by cheap red wine]

Same thing happened to me as well. Sigh~ Spammers might have found a way to know the new email address being created via hotmail. Actually they are sending those spam mails straight after a few minutes that you created the mail.

It depends on how common your email name is. It is understandable that randomizers, over a two month period, can pick out a fairly common name email address, but if your email address is not common, such as a random alpha-numeric sequence, then the number of spam emails over that same period of time would drastically decrease.

Its not like that. I think hotmail is very secure. Spammers use softwares to generate hundreds of thousands of series of random email addresses. Your email id also came in the series.

I have nothing to give back as far as you OP, but i have to say your title is my vote for Best thread title of the month... I love it.

The only problem is I am going to have the tune and words in my head all day.

I find gmail to be spam heaven!

I don't use the gmail address and have never given it to anyone,
yet it is just flooded with spam.

The email I have with yahoo, which is also not used, gets no spam.

        Go figure.

Same thing happens to my hotmail account as well. It is continually flooded with spam mail, and I can never use it for more than few days at a time before getting utterly fed up with it. Gmail for me is a safe haven in comparison, and its spam checker mostly does a stellar job at relegating all the real spam to the appropriate folder.
