Help me with article marketing!

Well technically I'm a newbie, so please bear with me.

I'm currently interested in investing in my own personal blog, then set up Adsense for pay-for-clicks. However, the big problem is this.

I've done a lot of digging into niches, but I guess I have this one-hit-get-rich kind of mentality, so I haven't been able to find a suitable niche at all!

For anyone with Market Samurai, what are the most recommended requirements that a niche must fulfill? I've read on the dojo web that relevance, traffic, competition and commerciality are keys, but the thing is that I haven't been able to find a niche to fit any of these criterias.

For example, when I search for a "big niche", I find many keywords, but the SEOC/SEOT aren't very good. So does anyone have any recommendations on what kind of values I should be looking at, or be even more kinder, to guide me through the process of finding a suitable micro niche to target my articles towards?

[Eg. These are what I search for: "feel less tired" / "increase vocabulary" / "increase IQ" ]
What am I doing wrong?
Are there ways to improve my search for a micro-niche?

Thanks for reading!
David

For Adsense, the keywords I target tend to have 2500+ exact match searches a month and have an exact match domain available. You don't want to go with 10K+ searches a month because most of those will have loads of competition. As far as the niche is concerned, I just look at things that people would be seeking more information on. Think health, fitness, money, relationships, etc.

Health, fitness, money, relationships are all good evergreen niches which means they will basically be around forever!

    Hi,
In MS I look for keywords that fulfill the following; SEOT needs to be around 100 and SEOV needs to be greater than $30.I then check competition to make sure I can get into the top 10 by replacing a site with fewer links or their page is not optimized as well as it could be.
    I hope this helps.

Hi, that helped me a lot! Do you look at other stats as well? For example, trends, total searches, SEOC?

Hi Alexa, thanks for the reply.
I've been pondering over it for a long time. I've heard that newbies should start with Adsense to get a sense of the money flow... But yeah, I guess you're right. What other methods can you recommend then?

Adsense is chasing pennies ...in volume it works great but I prefer affiliate marketing over adsense as the effort is the same but the payoff is much larger per each "success"

These niches you mentioned, especially 'increase IQ", are known to be quite good.

Think of the huge number of students that are looking for "ways to get better grades in school".

What you really need to do now is just expand your keyword search and look for longer tail keywords, relating to "increase IQ".

You will do well in the niche if you are focused, dedicated and remove the 'get-rich-now' mentality that you presently have.

In one's own Warrior words kind of way:

        What is Market Samurai?

        I've never heard of it.

If you are starting out with a personal blog, I'd suggest you choose a niche you are really interested in. Especially at first, blog posts will reflect a better "slant" on things if you write about something you know (or are passionate about.) Once you get the hang of it, and are more familiar with blogging in general, branching out into other niches makes more sense, and is a lot easier.

If you decide to go ahead with a niche just for the money, you may find it more difficult to get established and will find yourself spending a lot of time doing research, just to be able to create intelligent blog posts. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it certainly takes more effort, and may take longer to start generating any income.

With any online endeavor, getting traffic to your site is one of the most difficult parts of the process. If the people that come to your site find topics they expect (were searching for, etc.) they may then click on the Adsense ads on that site. However, as there are so many sites that are using Adsense, I'm not so sure I'd want to start with them as a primary source of income.

Whatever you do decide to do, continue with your research before you commit too much of your time. It can be very frustrating to spend many hours without seeing any return. The forums here can be especially helpful in finding out more about your options.
