Is this a stupid idea?

I'm fairly new to Email Marketing and I'm still tweaking around with my follow up messages. I'm obviously trying to build a relationship with my subscribers, I'm just not sure how to about it.

I'm in the dating & relationship niche which is aimed at women and the incentive to sign up is a 4 day dating course. I send them 1 email per day which include tips and advice. And I promote the product on the 4th day which seems to be converting pretty well at the moment.

My question is.. would it be a good idea to send them funny jokes and facts about men, before I promote my second product? Or is this a bad idea?

I'd put together a short newsletter and include relevant and interesting information specific to your niche.

I wouldn't send emails that consist of just jokes

I'd make your ratio of content/offer a 2:1 deal. So two days of content. Then 3rd offer. If it's converting well for you the way you do it then cool. Just my two sense try the 2:1 ratio and see if that helps.

From what I understand... humor is a difficult one to pull off in copy. Definatley check out the Copywriting section of this forum but I'm pretty sure they'll take that stance.

I'm sure you've done this already but worth checking out whoever is the competition and their auto-responders.

Actually... you could always test the water with a broadcast. If it bombs... it bombs and if it works you got yourself a new auto-responder message.

I would only write letters with your product in it.
Btw, if you go to the affliates section of your product, then in most of the cases you get allready a pre-written letter

You could always sometimes throw in a joke here or there with the regular emails. Perhaps just try it and see how the response is to jokes?

Develop a relationship with subscribers. That can take in a lot of ground, and jokes could be an occasional part of it. Just make it warm and personal. That will make your product offers go down easier.

I think its a nice idea. I'd be a little weary of offending any possible subscribers/buyers of your products. Maybe a newsletter would be a better place for those, although I think humor is a good way to reach people. If you are targeting women, you've got to be a little more careful than if you were targeting men. Lets face it, women are much more likely to become offended or put-off by things. That being said, building rapport is great so you might test it out on a smaller group and see what kind of results you get.

I'm always paranoid of humor in written form. Definitely make it clear that the joke is a joke instead of weaving it into your copy. Might help to avoid offending people.

In marketing, It's all about trial and error. I think you must try it, who knows maybe it will be an effective strategy. Don't afraid to take a risk, the important is if you failed, next time you will know what will be the right and the wrong.right?

I agree completely. You just have to try something out and if it works great if not try something else and you will succeed in due time.

I don't think it would be a problem at all. I wouldn't worry about it and if your conversion goes down then just go back to your old ways. No big deal..
