Best Autoresponder for Split Test + Importability?

Hey Guys,

Could really use some help picking an email autoresponder. For what I'm doing, I need an email marketing service that will

1) Let me split test at least subject line & body

2) Let me add a few contacts at a time without them having to reconfirm. I'm fine with having an account rep looking over a large list for the initial import, but once that's in, I'd like to be able to add opt-ins we get from sales force directly into the contact list without a confirmation message being sent out.

Note: So far, Aweber has proven to be good for split testing, but not lenient on contact adding, and iContact presently only lets you split test for a $300+ fee, making it not cost effective for what we're doing. Mailchimp is out because it doesn't let you split test the body.

Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Have you considered self hosted?

    you can import with no issues, I´m not sure about the split testing.

    and you will have to be carefully with blacklisting, and hosting overload.

    but you might be able to deal with it if you already have a dedicated server for example.

    • Thanks Sandra,

      If we could self-host a split-testing email marketing service with 97%+ deliverability and easy importability, we'd probably be selling that right now :-). So no, we need something already put together.

  • There's a workaround within a basic iContact account...

    You can create a hidden custom field for split testing purposes.

    For example, you can have custom field where the value for the
    custom field is either 'a' and 'b'.

    Then you use this custom field as a criterion in creating a list
    segment ('a' and 'b' for example).

    Then, when you want to split-test your subject line or body
    copy you send the versions to segments 'a' or 'b'.

    So, make sure your opt-in forms have a hidden custom field
    that is used for split-testing purposes. You can also divide
    your existing list in two and then assign each half with 'a' or
    'b' to suit.

  • Shaun,

    Are there advantages to Active Campaign versus Aweber?

    Many thanks and I appreciate all your great information.

    • Every autoresponder solution has it's own advantages
      and disadvantages.

      (I've not found a perfect one yet!).

      Which solution out there is best for you and your business
      really depends upon your skillsets and objectives.

      I like ActiveCampaign's Email Marketer because it has allows
      for easy list segmentation based upon subscriber actions. It
      also has a good API and decent support. However, the interface
      is hard to get the gist of at first.

      AWeber is a great option and their interface is much easier to
      use.

      Unless AWeber isn't doing what you want it to do for your
      business blog then there may be no need to change.

  • Take a look at - Split Testing - email marketing - GetResponse

    "Create up to five messages, and GetResponse will automatically test and return the winner. You can test virtually everything:

    subject line, “from” field, header, etc.

    call to action: its size, position, color, text, etc.;

    email design: layout, color scheme, images size and position;

    personalization tags;

    email content: various offers, links, landing pages;

    The winning version will be selected and sent automatically or manually, based on success criteria such as clicks, opens, sales quantity or sales income rate, etc."
