What is your biggest hurdle in creating a large list?

Hi Warriors,

Im looking for some writing material and can really use your help...

We all know the importance of creating an opt in list and how we can use that list to make money. Many people really struggle to get that list to the high numbers they strive for.

If you are struggling, what seems to be your biggest problem in getting people to opt in to your list?

Is it because you dont know how or cant create a squeeze page? Is it a lack of traffic? Lack of ideas or knowledge?

One more question...

If there was one thing that would make your list building easier for you, what would that be?

Look forward to hearing your answers.

Best,
Matt

I think it all comes down to traffic and to what you offer.
If only I could create some stuff to give away, I would be able to create a list for my video business.
One thing that made it much more effective was to get qualified people to opt in. People who are already very interested.

Hell, I'm doing my business and it's going well, but I still haven't came down to create a list...

Matt, go make a killer product.

Great point...an incentive to get people to sign up is huge. I know how much time it takes to create a product as an incentive.

Thanks for chiming Chris and Ill do my best.

I think for most people it's breaking even on ad cost so they can afford to build huge lists (huge traffic is a must)

So something to supplement the money spent for ads. Also a big problem for many.

      Thank you John

I don't know about you, but have you ever seen what 1,000 people look like when they are all in the same area. Thats a lot of faces!!

You should really focus on the quality of the relationship you have with your list as opposed to the quantity of people on it.

Because if you have a better relationship with your list, your response to offer rates will be higher than the other guys, and your list will open your eMails first before they open your competitors.

Here a few easy zero to low cost tips that you can use to create a better relationship with your list:
      • Make a Wordpress blog related to your niche, keep it updated and encourage your list members to comment there. This way they form relationships with each and you as well.
      • Make a free Myspace style social network for your list members here at Ning. Create your own social network for anything., interact with them often and participate with them.
      • Make a free chatroom for your list here at Live Communities - Chatroll.com, you can embed it to your niche wordpress blog as well so they can chat right there on the page.
      • Create a forum for your list members to participate in as well, and if you are using Wordpress for your blog platform you can use this plugin to create a forum right there within your blog: Simpleress Forum | Stuff at Yellow Swordfish
      • Create a page at Twitter: What are you doing? and encourage your list to "follow" you
      • Use this FREE audio recording software to record a weekly podcast for your list, that way they see your picture and hear your voice, which further strengthens your bond, and takes you out of being a "pushy salesman" and puts you into more of the "cool guy who likes the same things as I do" zone.
      • Email them often. You want them to keep you in their thoughts. Maintain at least a 1 to 10 ratio of offers to quality content emails. You don't even necessarily have to mail them niche related content. You can just update them on the happenings in your life if you wish.
These are just a few tips. There have been entire info products written on this subject, one of my favorites being Frank Kern's Mass Control.
      Great point!

Its not the actual number but more to do with how responsive or how many eager buyers you have on your list.

Thanks for the tips....this will help out immensely.
