Back Office System Decision - "RAP"

HI folks.
I've been struggling with the decision on which "back office system" to use.

I've considered:
  • JVM 1
  • Fantasos
  • RAP
  • and a platform that apparently hasn't launched yet.

All of them are cool.
But all of them have at least one thing that bugs me.

Right now the leading candidate is RAP.
There are only two items that are bugging me. One is a question I've yet to find the answer for, and the other is an answer to a different question that I didn't like so much.

So I'm wondering if any of you can help me with these questions...

1) How does RAP deal with being the centralized system for sales pages across multiple domains and servers?

It SOUNDS like it does this just fine but I'm not clear.
I haven't found a definitive "YES" anywhere.

Bottom line I want to have my back office system (RAP) on my main server / domain but host my sales pages on their own domains / servers.

Can anyone verify if/how this works in RAP?

2) Have you had any experiences with the "instant affiliate payment" that RAP does?

I would rather not pay affiliates until the guarantee period has passed.
The answer I suppose is to make the affiliates responsible for any refunds, but I doubt they (and especially my JV partners) would like to earn 50% on a product they may need to refund 100% on.

Am I too worried by this?
Has anyone else been bitten in the A$$ by this?

Thanks - I appreciate your feedback.

They would not be refunding more than they received. If you pay 50%, the affiliate is really getting 100% of every other sale he makes. So if there is a refund he would have collected the full price for that sale.

    Thanks Chris,

Well yes I realize that the affiliate would be "ok" as long as refunds were fewer than sales, but still...

With immediate payments going out to affiliates - whomever (me or the affiliate) gives customer A a refund is out something because they only have 50% of customer A's money.

    Yes?
Am I missing something simple here?

Also Chris / ALL if you don't mind...

Can you confirm that RAP can manage sales from distributed domains?

    Thanks!

I think what Chris is saying is this...

Give a 50% commission, you would make 100% on customer A and affiliate would make 100% on customer B. And it keeps alternating (every other one) like that.

So if A refunds, you take care of it. If B refunds, the affiliate takes care of it.

    I'll explain it again.

Your product costs $20. An affiliate makes 2 sales. He collects $20 on one of them, zero on the other. So he has collected a total of $20 after 2 sales.

One of those people asks for a refund. Affiliate gives it to him, leaving affiliate with $20 - $20 = zero, which is not a loss.

If the affiliate only sold 1, that means the vendor collected the $20, so in that case the vendor can issue the refund.

Oh I see... So it doesn't actually split the payment.
It "round robins" the decision on who gets paid.

    Interesting.
Perhaps not as big a deal as I thought.
But still in reality they are refunding one person with the Money from 2 sales.
When they get their $20 they'll know in their heart of hearts that it was for 2 sales.

But perhaps I'm worrying too much about it.

    Thanks guys

One question down one to go.

    Hi dougyitbos,

You contacted me regarding the RAP admin. Concerning your first question, you can check with the RAP forum itself. I believe someone has figured that out.

As for the second question, affiliates are paid instantly. There is no issue so far when I did my previous launch. Any refunds have to be paid out by the affiliate.

    Thanks all.
It seems I was spending way too much time worrying about what ifs with regard to the instant payment. I have a tendancy to over think sometimes.

For anyone who finds this thread and has the same questions I'll mention here that RAP dose NOT appear to manage sales from multiple domains... BUT the lisence allows for multiple installs so it's not a show stopper.

    Thanks again everyone!!

    Hi Dougyitbos

Don't know how I missed a RAP thread! Should've gone to specsavers!

You seem to have it worked out, though - the RAP admin has to be installed on each domain you are using the products on - you can have multiple products on that domain though. And yes - you purchase a license for use on any/all of YOUR domains.

With instant payment - each sale of a product is attributed to an individual (you or your affiliate) and that way there is no confusion over any refunds - obviously if it's your sale - you refund - and if it's your affiliates he/she would refund.

Once you set the commission structure, everything else is automatic. It deals with all that and more (equity partners etc etc!!)

I can see why some people get confused over the handling of commission when using %'s but RAP has it "RAPPED" up!! If you offer your affiliates 50% commission then RAP converts that to give YOU the first sale (always you first to avoid fraud!), then the next sale goes to your affiliate, third to you, and so on and so forth.

It really is a great system and well worth looking into! I am sure you will love it! The RAP Forum is also a great place for all the info!

But I can't get it downloaded.
I click the download link and get the message:

"This product may only be downloaded from the download page provided."

    What gives???

Download problem seems to be affecting FireFox 3
Tried from safari and got the application downloaded.
Still can't get the TOS addon bonus - but it seems the application itself came down ok.

So does the affiliate see the customers' contact information then?

So that's the only way that RAP is set up to pay affiliates? Is it possible to pay them at a set date then instead of instantly?
