Is Rick Latona out of his mind?

Or does he think other people are out of their minds?

You probably know who Rick Latona is (he's made millions buying and selling domain names) - The guy obviously has a very good business sense.

He posted on his blog recently that he would consider doing a lease-purchase for some of his .com names: Starting out in the domain business? I may have an opportunity for you. | RickLatona.com

I though that was a GREAT opportunity and emailed him expressing interest. A few days later, he sent a mass email to everyone who was interested in leasing a name.

He showed the names he was considering leasing and his acceptable payment terms. What he's expecting for some of these names is astounding.

I'm interested in your opinions - are any of these "good" deals?:

Can anyone explain to me how they'd monetize something like PapuaNewGuinea.com? Read the wikipedia page for them...doesn't seem very "monetizable".

For the record, I'm not guru bashing. H's a smart business man. I KNOW if I don't like any of the offers I don't have to take them. But, there's no way these are good deal right?

    Never heard of the guy.

To tell whether those prices are "fair" I'd have to know what the name is worth on the open market for an outright purchase.

In other words, is he charging more by asking for payments over years, or is he helping you finance it?

If I wanted a name like that I would just take the desired name and add another word to it- which usually easily leads to domains that are still available.

Well, for example, TaxAccountant and TaxAccountants.com were just up for auction at the latest TRAFFIC show. I guess they didn't sell - and they had reserve prices of 25k - 49k each. And he's trying to finance it to people for a total cost of about $239k.

The guy has done a lot and made a ton of $ and I generally respect his business acumen, but this made me take a step back.
