How do you generate free, targetted traffic to a new niche-site?

Too bad I'm not doing anything in the IM niche as yet. So, WF isn't the place for me to promote my sites (other than getting a backlink). But, I get your point... I could be on a forum related to my niche and use the signature space to get some people to click on my sig link(s). So, that's one tip we have worth trying.

@ oda yes I wanted to emphasize pinging with an exclamation! While pinging does notify search engine bots/spiders of new content/material it doesn't guarantee they will visit your site that moment. (There's only so many and there's millions of new pages made every day) But the general idea of course is to get them coming back to your site regulary. But also by adding keyword rich content, tags, categories etc it has something new. And for the first few posts keep them at least 600 words to make it look like an authorative post to a search engine not a skinny site.

Like we're told, it's good to add content to sites regulary to get bots/spiders coming back regulary and doing this every day on a new site (particulary wordpress) is helpful for just that. Once you've been doing it constantly for about a week, you can calm down or set up autoposting.

It depends on the niche but this has always been my experience and the best way to launch a new website. And also it's tempting, but not to throw too many links at it like some people do and set the google filters off. Subtlety is the key. Simply use the power of the Web 2.0 sites and top social bookmarking sites slowly at first and keep your eye on search engine searches coming in then build on that.

I'm not an expert on video marketing or Internet Marketing for that matter... so keep that in mind when you read this.

In my opinion, this is the same as any other page you want to get traffic to. If you create and publish videos on YouTube to get traffic to your site you will then need to do some marketing to bring people to your videos.

Now, a lot of people will say to focus on keyword research or try to capitalize on hot topics and so on. You might be able to do that. But I think for the majority of us we won't hit any home runs from our videos so it's all going to come back to releasing a video that will sit on YouTube getting very few views unless we actively market the video.

For that reason, I don't see video marketing as a way to get fast traffic. Take a look around YouTube and will find a huge number of videos that have way less than 100 views despite having been published months ago.

You might get lucky. It's always possible. But I think you'll find actively working to market the videos will become your next task. And this will basically put you right back at the spot you are now only instead of trying to get traffic to your new niche site you will be trying to get traffic to your new video(s).

Here are some things I would recommend, based on my own experience, that will work to bring some traffic quickly to your website or your videos or whatever...

• Find blogs relevant to your niche and comment on them. Real comments that add value. Answer questions or ask meaningful questions.
• Find forums relevant to your niche and participate on them. The same as you are doing on WF. Because your niche site will be of direct interest to the niche forum there is a far greater chance of people clicking on your signature links to visit your site for the right reasons.
• Post classified ads in the relevant categories at places like USFreeAds.

Basically, just find where your market is spending time / hanging out, or where they might at least visit on their way to finding the place they want to hang out, and participate on those sites. Join discussions in the comments and forums and share your opinions and ask your own questions. Contribute to the community.
