does the location of your web host matters? let say if you got a web host in china and wanted to target US audiences.

even if you go to google webmaster tool and set your targeted audience as US, does google still prefer someone with US web host and targeted audience set as US?

My experience is that it is important! If you are targeting us audiences, I recommend that you host your site in the us for the best rankings in google.

      I have found the opposite

I regularly host sites in the US and target audiences here in Australia, and have many #1 ranked sites.

It may have been very important in years gone by, but with cheap hosting all over the web, I don't think Big G puts much value on it any more.

Maybe, if 2 websites are idential in SEO weighting and they both target a local geographic target, then maybe, just maybe G will say becuase site A is in country X, we'll give it a bit more weighting than site B.

But a bit more work, means that situation should never happen..

      Hope this helps
