How Can I Organise A Speaking World Tour?

Hi folks,

I have this huge ambition of doing a speaking world tour. I want to go to 12 cities in 12 months and host a workshop there on using IM for local businesses and trading internationally too.

Has anybody embarked on such a tour? Any tips for me on how to go about organising one without having to travel far and wife? This is something I REALLY REALLY want to do!

Cheers

    Hi Abul,

I have never done public speaking on a big level, nor have I done any world travel. However, this is how I think I'd do it:

    1. Develop your talk. Practice it. Give it for free. Hone your skills until you are sought after.

    2. Start charging appearance fees. This is so your speaking has perceived value to the people you'll get in touch with in the next step.

    3. Choose the places you would like to go, then contact business associations in that area. Explain what you do and how it will benefit them.

    4. Make travel and lodging a part of your speaking fees and you could travel the world for free, all while doing something you're passionate about.

    5. Be sure to send me a PM if you ever speak here in the states.

    All the best,
    Michael

I like that you have big goals like this. It's definitely something that would take a lot of planning and money to get right, but that's not to say it can't be done. How about getting some kind of sponsorship? Think about companies that would love to get their products/services in front of this type of crowd.

I also agree with not taking the wife!

You should do many local gigs first

Agreed. I've been on such a tour (actually many more dates per year than that) and the logistics and expenses are pretty intense. Not to say it's not achievable, but without name recognition and some pretty healthy infrastructure it could be tough.

Do local first. Record some videos. Get testimonials and success stories and start trying to network with others in the industry that your training will compliment, but not compete with. Then with a track record, start pursuing guest speaking gigs with some of those contacts.

That's what I would do - ahem... am doing
