Need Help Choosing a Domain Name

I have had a blog for a while about my son who has some behavior issues and now I'm starting a forum.

I was going to just have it on the same domain as my blog but my blog name is My-Beautiful-Boy.com so it's targeted more toward boys I guess.

So now I've decided to create the forum on a completely new domain but am having trouble choosing a domain name. These are three I've come up with:

1. OurExceptionalKids.com
2. OurBeautifulKids.com
3. ParentingDifficultKids.com

4. ParentingDifficultChildren.com
5. EffectiveParentingForum.com
6. ParentingSupportForum.com

So I thought I'd com on here and see which one people preferred. Please let me know which domain you vote for - or if I can work out how I might put a poll up.

Or if you have any other suggestions, I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks
Sheryl

what we vote for isn't important...what you want is a seo friendly domain. Do a keyword research and see what people are searching for in that niche.

Anyway, I think parentingdifficultkids.com seem to stick with your target audience (moms not boys)

You should try a shorter domain name for a forum. Try 2 words or at least shorter term for each term. If anything I agree 3. ParentingDifficultKids.com is the best one.

Same here. The third clearly is relevant to what you want your site to be: A community of parents sharing their thoughts and insights on their children with behavioral issues.

        Another Vote for "ParentingDifficultKids.com" .
The reason is that you have included the keyword parenting, which on exact match has over 40000 monthly searches.

Yes, although I hadn't looked up the search numbers, I thought it would be good to have the word parenting in there somewhere.

I don't agree with using the word "difficult." It sounds negative and could push some parents away from the forum. It needs a more supportive name, assuming that's the point of the forum. I voted for the second one.

I was wondering about this too, however I think parents with difficult children can relate very well to the words difficult kids.

Is it the children that are difficult, or do some parents have difficulty in understanding how to raise children ?

          Me too.

If I have a child that is difficult, I still would want to think they are beautiful or wonderful or what ever - even when they just went out and shot someone, lol.

I think difficult is too negative a word and not sure I would want to regularly visit the site.

If the site is helping me to bring out the beautiful side of the child, that makes sense (to me anyway).

The only issue I see with this name is it could attract kid beauty pagent mothers who want to show off their kids.

Thanks everyone for your input. I have made a decision and it is none of the above I've actually gone with specialneedsparenting.net

It is a .net because the .com is already taken, even though it's a parked domain, but that's ok. specialneedsparentingforum.com was available but that's just too long.

I think with the name 'special needs' in the name I can incorporate a much wider audience.

So decision made - thanks everyone!

You should usually be looking to narrow mass markets are opposed to widening them -- it increases your chances of success -- but good luck anyway if you've made a decision

    Hi Sheryl,

Sign me up for your forum ... I need your help!

"Parenting Tips" is a popular search, so you could look for something like:

Get Parenting Tips, or Share Parenting Tips

When I get stuck looking for a decent domain I often put each word I might use into a thesaurus and then jumble the resulting word combinations around to see what I get. So, 'Difficult' could become 'Challenging' or 'Demanding' or 'Problem'.

I also have a list of short prefix and suffix words that can often help me come up with a domain name that works.

Or, if all else fails you could just register ... Dont Blame The Parents .com

BTW: If you find one you like REGISTER IT - because it may be gone when you check back later. Trust me, that's a lesson you don't want to learn the hard way!

    Mark.

Good idea for your blog, domains however are way too long and really not catchy enough to find or remember, is this a long term goal project, if so we could come up with some optional names from our stock, aged or otherwise :-)

Yes this is LONG term - this is following up or an addition to 2 current websites I have and I have a few plans in this niche long term (if all goes well). So this forum is not something I want to set up and flip 6 months down the track, this is one for the long haul.

Why are you creating this site/forum? To help your kid? Rasie awareness? Make money?

Depending on the answer, you should pick the right domain.
Personally, how does your kid feel about you making his problem widely available on the web? Are you going to make money off of it(him)? If you're only trying to help him, the SEO doesn't matter, nor the domain.

Very good points. My original site was created for my personal benefit and not to make money or anything else, but it has attracted many readers in the same situation. This is why I want to create the forum - to help other parents in the same situation. Not that I'm an expert and I certainly still have issues with my own son, but I think it helps if you have somewhere to go to talk about things and just connect with others that know what you're going through.

So that's the main reasoning, which is why I'm not overly concerned about SEO, although I'm sure good keywords will attract more people, parenting is a very competitive niche so I'm not sure I want to really fight to get to the top! I'm happy to take it slow and build it up as it's needed.

    I go with this: EffectiveParentingForum.com

Why? Others sounds discouraging and negative. While this one sounds like effective for all aspects and no megative impact.

When you say difficult, exceptional - not sound good to me. Effectiveparenting can attract attention even parents with normal kids. and "effective parenting" is a highly competitive keyword.

I bought a book once called "Parenting Spirited Children" or something similar. I can't remember the exact title.

The term "spirited" was used instead of "challenging" or "difficult" because that's really what they are - they have a feisty, fiery spirit that needs to be channeled, not squelched, and they need parents to help them in their journey.

Reading this book (and helping me understand the nature of my child wasn't to be "difficult" or "challenging," but was just more spirited), helped me a great deal.

That might be a word/approach you might consider.

Go with "ParentingDifficultChildren.com" Because that is the keyword people are searching most. You would have more success targeting the keyword "Parenting Difficult Children" then "Effective Parenting Forum" which one of these would you think is searched by REAL people? I think the answer is obvious...

    I would vote for Parenting{something}Kids

But don't use "Difficult", that has a very negative connotation associated with it. While that may be what the forum is about, you don't want to have the name putting people off because of the inherent negativity in it. Most parents that care for special needs/behavior problems children don't call them "difficult", and would probably be offended by it.

I would go with ParentingSpecialKids, or ParentingSpiritedKids that was suggested above.

Last night I made the decision to go with ParentingBoost.com - though now I'm not sure after reading this again.

ParentingBoost.com because it's a shorter domain which a lot of people were saying I should use a shorter domain - also because it's about giving parents a 'boost'.

I do like parentingspiritedkids.com though but I'm not sure if it's just too long.
