information on interpreting your stats

When I go through the AW stats on my cpanel certain things don't make sense. Sometimes the number of viewers seems like it had to be higher than the stats (from the number of comments). I find other contradicitions that don't make sense to me. Has anyone found authoritative info on how to interpret viewer stats and use them to improve web sites and conversions?

  • have you tried installing Google Analytics on your site to get a different view as well?

    • Yes on some of them. It seems like there should be information on how the stats differ and how you can use them, but it seems hard tofind.
  • It's not worth wasting the mental energy on trying to work out why one system differs from another.

Stick to one (Google Analytics is a good bet) and use its numbers to drive your sales and conversions upwards.

It doesn't really matter too much if the figures are absolutely correct to the last visitor - as long as you're moving them in the right direction.

    Cheers,

  • awstats isn't showing the number of visitors, it tracks the individual file requests. Go with Google Analytics, it's more readable. awstats is better at narrowing down things like file leeching and such.
