Article Syndication - Talk is Cheap!

I've seen some discussions debunking the value of article
syndication.

Talk is cheap. Results are not.

See this screenshot of my "Infopreneur Blog" below:

The visitor data from March 8th to 13th is the typical volume
per day.

On Sunday, I decided to try a variation on my usual process
and include "active syndication" of 2 blog posts.

The first was "Facebook Sign Up - Should You Do It?" and the
next was "Content Curation - How Infopreneurs Add Value".

I did *very basic* syndication, including hitting the WP-Syndicate
button (it's a paid plug-in that automatically shares links with a
set of social networking sites), posting variations of the article to
4 article directories and social bookmarking the blog post.

The numbers speak for themselves.

Traffic TRIPLED - and then more - within 24 hours of the
basic syndication process.

I'm doing a lot more going forward... but just wanted to share
some real data on the POWER of getting distribution for your
written work through syndication.

Hope this helps.

All success
Dr.Mani

    Very helpful post!

I'm trying to find the plug-in you use but I'm having some trouble. Is it WP-syndicate or WP-syndicator?

    Thank you!

Shhhhh, quiet Dr. Mani. Let them keep thinking EZA is actually a "great source of syndication"...

Don't the let the cat out of the bag!

Now that we know the bag and that there's a cat in it, let's just hope for peace and share some nuggets, may we?

I'd love to read some more ideas on doing article syndication.

      @drmani: Thanks for the post

Good job to the OP. It just shows that once you take some serious action then serious things will happen. You just need to figure out how to get the process done so that you have the consistent traffic without doing all the work over and over again.

        Good luck!

I have other parts to my business but I've been doing article syndication for just over a year. The first 6 months went quite slowly, primarily because I was doing it the wrong way, waiting for people to find my articles.

When I came here I realised some people proactively approached blog and site owners. I attribute this to Bill Platt and Alexa Smith. I watched what they did and shamelessly copied them .

At first my articles were turned down so I paid, some would say, too much to get articles written by very good writers. I thought they were excellent value for 2 reasons.

Firstly I finally got these articles syndicated in the niche I was targetting at the time.

Secondly I had a blueprint of how experts were creating high quality syndicatable articles, which I could use.

The first time I did this and the night before I went to bed, knowing the article was about to be published on the authority site I'd approached, I had a mailing list in this particular niche of, wait for it, 4 people (It was a new niche and early days). My site was a simple pre sell page with a link to an affiliate product and a small freebie I gave away if they signed up. The affiliate product paid out just under $25 commission.

When I got up the next day my mailing list had 276 new subscribers and I'd sold 21 units of the affiliate product. Over the next week sales continued as did my mailing list grow.

This was the first article I got syndicated on an authority site.

Since then I've been doing this more and more and it astounds me how easy it is, once I've created a relationship with authority site owners and they've agreed to use my work. I now approach niches based on the authority sites and whether they will syndicate my stuff, rather than keyword research.

I've seen some discussions debunking the value of article
        syndication.

Talk is cheap. Results are not.
I agree completely. All the people I speak to that slag off syndication have either: Never successfully tried it, or even bothered to try it at all.

It amazes me the conversations I have here, when I do it successfully, telling me it doesn't work, when they've never even done it.

It's like me actually argueing with someone that sells Christmas trees, telling them they're wasting their time, because no one actually buys Christmas trees at Christmas.

Talk, is indeed cheap and often times, jolly well ridiculous and backed up with no more than personal opinion with absolutely no factual evidence what so ever, with which to back it up.

        Still, never mind.

That's a great burst of traffic mate, but how long will it last? The Facebook News Feeds, Twitter feeds and MySpace feeds all eventually drop off the first page, decreasing click through rates, as do article directories. Noting the initial spike in traffic, we should also be aware that it will typically soon settle down to normal organic search traffic velocity. Great work though on that burst of traffic.

Sure, the traffic will taper off after some time. But if you keep writing articles, you will see those bursts of traffic start to build on one another.

An article I wrote in 2002 still delivers 50 visitors per month to my site 9 years later.

50 unique visitors isn't at the level of a traffic burst, but if you stack up hundreds of articles that deliver 5 or 50 people per month, then you are looking at significant traffic, especially when supplemented by new bursts of traffic.

It's been a week since the last screenshot, and curious to answer this
question with data, I checked today:

And now, the next article I'm having published goes into syndication, it will
hopefully set off another burst of visitors - and this could continue ad
      infinitum
      !

James said it well... Get things started - Just do it!

    Hey Mani,

This is exactly the same as I was telling people here a few years ago. I even did some videos showing people how to get a blog up and running quickly and getting traffic from day 1 doing this with free plugins, but then almost every day since then have still seen people coming here saying they don't know how to get traffic etc..

I think people jump on so many different things looking for better solutions that they forget what actually works.

It's the same concept people like Kurt have been telling people for many years but all the hype from people selling new shiny (sometimes not new or shiny also) strategies seem to ensure people don't test for themselves and need to be told what to do.

Thanks for taking the time to share your results.

    I hope people pay attention.

      Thanks Andy...

It does get a little frustrating, since many people seem to think newest is always best.

A great tip for beginers is to spend some time and focus on things that have worked for a while as their foundation.

I recently found Posterous, which links your blog to everything else including twitter, FB (either your account or your business page), tumblr, identica, and a bunch more, and when you post to posterous it sends the post to EVERYTHING! I have yet to try it out though becuase I have been having writers block for the better part of a week. I found out about it when I was trying to find more ways to syndicate my articles

Is it possible to syndicate your own article to a limited number? Say I published an article and I only want a maximum of 10 people to syndicate it.

I predict content marketing will remain a hot topic for a while yet as the search engines do their best to serve up quality content to seekers online. That being said, I've always believed in it and supported the process.

While Dr Mani and others shared some of their traffic data from their own site, I thought you might like to see a summary from one of my EzineArticle accounts. I just snagged this screen shot from the summary panel... and no, I'm not telling you the associated keywords :p

    Check this out:

This data covers a multi year range and it is ONLY for one content syndication source (like Dr Mani I do more than just one thing!) but as you can see, it is real and EZA does have value ... even if Google recently named it on their "no fly farmer list" - LOL

Enjoy, and keep on creating content and publishing it.

By the way, the data above is ONLY EZA tracked data. The articles have been published around the internet many times so my traffic and exposure is considerably higher than the numbers shown.

PS... I don't over think this too much. Analysis paralysis is a profit killer. Just do it ... (crap, I quoted NIKE.)
