The Spammiest of Spam Blog Comments

I got this one today on one of my blogs:
I am always browsing online for tips that can help me. Thanks! %WEBSITE%

I like the way what ever automated spam comment app they used left the tags in there.

Even better, it was from Freida.R.Hodge@spambob.com. At least they're honest!

I've been getting a lot of ones saying they are really disappointed in my blog. It use to always be the typical 'I like your blog' but now it's 'I've never been so disappointed in anything til I read your blog' - WTF!!!! Do they really think I'd approve that!

There are a lot of spam bots out there. Akismet usually helps to block them. Hopefully you guys will be able to implement it into your blogs. They will stop a good number of the spam posts. How about the "I noticed an error on your blog" type posts? Those are pretty annoying also.

Most of the blogs now-a-days employ spam filters which is a great way to catch the spammers. But I have found that some spam filters don't care about the duplicate comments which is a big loop hole in it, using this anyone can copy the related previous comments and spam.

we can't do much about it actaully other than installing preventive plugins. The programmers who make the spambots are always catching up so rapid changes only can stop there effectiveness

  • The good spam comment writers are getting better at writing something that could almost pass as a real comment (and, if you look around at a number of blogs, you'll see that they often get through).

The worst thing is when there's a real human who reallly does just want to leave a short 'Nice Post, thanks!' type comment - and these immediately look like spam.

The second worst is when people leave interesting comments, clearly related to the post, but use a name such as 'Best Tennis Shoes'. That looks incredibly spammy and out of place, and really doesn't introduce any confidence into someone reading the blog.

Theres a plugin called commentluv and keywordluv with allows someone to post NAME@KEYWORDS and it will show up as "Name from Keywords"...

Pretty awesome because then you get the relevant seo comments but without the spam look.

You can edit every part of a spam post including linking to interior pages of your own blog/site. Lol.

Exactly! Need more relevant content at your site and like the IP variety those comments can give? With enough editing and stripping out of links, every spammer can become your friend. After editing, be sure to comment! Keep the conversation going!

Then why not just put in fake comments to begin with then close the comments off??

...No Joke, I actually got this posted 20 times on my blog. I now always use this example when training my new link-builders. I instructed them never ever to write "thank you this is useful information." or any variation of that.

You know, the comments that get through Akismet and are readable, courteous and pleasant but still probably auto-posted?

Well I approve them. Why not? I dont care if someone typed it into my comment box or typed it into a comment box on Scrapebox. Doesn't matter to me. A nice comment is a nice comment regardless. I don't begrudge someone a backlink.

When I go a-backlink buildin' I always hope that my comments are approved so it would be rather hypocritical of me to do otherwise.

I keep getting a comment on my blog about (hypothetically speaking) elephant head gear, that goes something like this...

"Hey, you deleted my last comment, what's wrong with you? It's of real value and very relevant to your readers. It shows how to make 8 gazillion dollars in the next week, straight up, it works like dam busters, approve this comment, your readers will love you"

Well my readers buying hats for their elephants, might well want to make that sort of money but I'm still not approving whether that person keeps sending it 5 times a day or not.

Akismet does do a lovely job though.

But do you leave spammy comments, or do you leave comments that are actually appropriate to the post?

If i am writing i leave good ones, if i am using an automated tool i try
to spin the results to look reasonable and relevant.

i am a programmer who did a lot of web work in the late 90's, just got back
into it. spent the last 6 months investigating google and learning the automated
tools. be careful about believing what you read, nobody is giving away too much
        only hints.

My personal favorites were two comments which were well written comments about iPhones, posted in a blog post about what to do about underwater mortgages. I almost felt bad for the guy, though I still didn't approve it.

I've been using akismet, but occasionally one will slip through. I have been using a technique that some warrior posted here a few months back to add content from spam posts. You simply edit them to add more relevant content, then remove their link. That way you get a comment that adds to your blog, but the spammer gets nothing in return. Works great, and takes about 30 seconds to a minute.

I normally don't approve of people leaving a backlink as their website URL .

I just denied "Cheap web hosting India" the other day as a comment for one of my hubs.

I read that same post and started implementing it immediately, but I change their links to links of my own. It seemed so obvious once it was pointed out to me.

know i'll start a war with this but...
i am doing a site now, set all links to follow,
i want comments, want posts everything. i feel
that if i get a comment, even a well spun one it
only helps me. and i have no problem giving links
as long as the comment shows a little class. i dont
expect anyone to post or comment without getting
a link back. i don't post on nofollow sites, why should i
help someone if they wont help me.

as far as bad spam comment, takes about 3 seconds
to delete a bunch. no big deal.

tip: if you don't test what you read on the web as far
as google, seo tools etc. you may develop a lot of beliefs
        that are really wrong.

my 2 cents which is what it is worth!

If the comment is good, inciteful, and relevant I'll usually approve it , even if it is spun. Too many of them are only the typical "Great post" "I love your site" kind of drivel that adds nothing to the post. Those, when the make it through Akismet, are gone.

That's the "spammiest comment" you've ever gotten? Consider yourself lucky.

I had a blog running last year that would get comments which just had 100 hyperlinks in them to porn sites and online pharmacies.

That's definitely not the spammiest I've ever gotten by a long shot, but I thought funny how they left the spin tags in there when they (uh, their bot) posted it.
