Which Fields? -- Email only? Name + Email? Or ???

Hi there,

When creating a list with Aweber or iContact (etc) which fields do you suggest asking for?

1. Email Address ONLY.

2. Email Address plus First Name.

3. Email Address plus First Name AND Last Name.

4. All of the above plus more.

If anyone has tested the above choices I'd love to hear your comments about which seems to work best (and why).

Thanks!

The fields you ask for depend upon your objectives
    for the list you're building.

To maximize the visitor-to-subscriber opt-in rates,
I've found that asking for e-mail ONLY increases
    the percentage of people opting-in.

If you ask for more data, you get fewer people
    completing the form.

Depending upon the situation, I tend to ask for
e-mail only to maximize list size on the front-end.

The most important lists are buyer's lists and I get
their further details at that point.

However, there are some cases where I don't want
    to maximize opt-ins.

In some cases, I may ask for a lot of personal information
(e.g. name, address, phone number in addition to e-mail).

This could be something like for a free CD offer where
I want people to pre-qualify their interest level and
    minimize more casual subscribers.

So, it depends upon your objective. Decide your objective
and then choose the right strategy to accomplish it.

    Dedicated to mutual success,

    Shaun

All of it depends on you. IF you want, you make it unique else follow the 'orthodox' system and get the info. about the Email and the first name of the person.

      Hi

Here we go again... the joys of list building and needing that BIG list

You only want people to sign up to your list if they really want to!!!

      >> I mean when you provide relevant and good content (and do not sell to your readers at any time)... they will decide if they like your content and if so, they will actively look to sign up to your newsletter or whatever that may be...

... and do you really think they have an issue with filling in their first name or more details... of course not.

You don't want people to sign up to your list who take a free eBook or something like that...99% of those people never heard of you before, just check out the freebie therefore and changes are they will never bother to read your stuff again... just passers by...

That way you have a large list, but a poor quality list...that is not a buyers list!!!

Good luck and keep on writing great content.

      warm regards
      Arjen

Looks like I am the only vote with First name as well.

Have always found it works well, um, I don't know your name

Also a little tip - customize the text on the actual submit button like:

"Give me my free report" etc..

    That works well too.
