Why Should I Buy From You?

As I was making breakfast this morning, I turned on the television to VH1 for some background noise. Rob Zombie was speaking to a reporter and made a comment that caught my attention.

He talked about how bands today are all wearing the same clothes and following the same path. "No one is different...no one is standing out" as he said.

This short comment from Rob Zombie is something all business owners should pay attention to. To really make an impact, your business or your message needs to be unique. You need to offer something different than all your competitors.

If you don't, then why should I buy from you?

What's your unique selling proposition...

    Interesting question.

My unique selling preposition is the fact that my work will save your life. This is something I’m proving you everyday with my free articles, free ebooks and free advice. The value of my work is my best guarantee.

However, there is too much competition online, and nothing is fair online, the same way that nothing is fair in our absurd world. My competitors are killing me. They don’t care about the world’s salvation. They only care about selling their own products.

    • Hi,

That's not really a USP. By 'saving' someone's life, you mean like CPR?

A USP is a distinguishing feature. It's like wearing a bright yellow neon tuxedo to a blacktie event, where everyone else is wearing black. In 'that' case -- you get noticed.

Your USP needs to be what makes you special. If indeed you are 'saving' peoples live s(i'll assume you are talking about CPR, etc) why should someone listen to you, as opposed to say, a doctor, or a paramedic?

    Good point.

My (almost) unique selling point: how to make more than just a few bucks with Fiverr. I know there are others who are ofering this but only when you pay. I give it away for free.

I think having a "USP" is great, but what about just being unique?

Be yourself so you can connect with others like you and build relationships there. If you have a relationship with the people on your list you don't really need that USP for the product you're creating, because they already like you and want to learn more from you.

Though putting a unique spin on things can definitely help with buzz and attracting more people to your sphere of influence.

        hi Tyson --
Actually in some ways -- if that is what you are doing -- that *is* a USP. Simply because the majority of people just want to 'sell' stuff (including big businesses) -- and don't want to put a face to a name. If you are building relationships -- that is in a way a bit of a USP with how many do business nowadays.

Thank you for having this post. It prompted me to add my USP right on the top of my home page (not the blog), with smaller "blurbs" on all the rest of my pages because not every visitor lands on my home page first.

I actually had some positive feedback on the revision from a couple of colleagues in my industry too, so that made me feel good.

Of course, any other opinions are welcome too.
